in a word jake , no,  a call to basc before police arrival enabled  me to put the officer at ease regarding the law

although i will not be leaving anything in the car from now on because of the hassle and loss

the officer who found the gear was actually ex firearms, you do hear horror stories of the victim being made to feel like the culprit but  that wasnt the case and once i quoted the relavent rules and regs all was ok

Trust all will be well when you get it sorted. Thieves - don't you just love the buggars.

That's good that you got a sensible one. What are the regs about ammo storage in car, because we all do it!

You can pretty much do as you please with cartridges (though I would suggest sensible precautions!).

One of those weird situations where you require a certificate, only to purchase them.  It is not an offence to be in possession of them without being a certificate holder.  So you can leave them in the car and not worry that your Mrs is driving about with them etc.  This is why they differ from rifle ammo with regards to home storage, rifle ammo must be locked up and in a separate safe/cabinet from the firearms.

from memory so don't quote me it went something like

under section 2 firearms act  1968 there is no security provision  for shotgun carts

under control of explosives u.n section 1.4 s carts are harmless and will not explode in bulk or words similar

what you must absolutely do however is immediately report the loss or theft of your license to your firearms dept. noting time date and name of who you spoke to. that is a legal requirement
