How about we set up a cartridge by cartridge rateing poll, 1-5 for preformance, value and recoil. Pick one a week, say start with F/blues one week, then something else the next, as people buy/try they can add to past threads.......???

Gosh get the pop corn, this could be a long one. How do you distinguish the different types of shooters giving the reports? A novice would give a totally different take on any cartridge than an shooter at the top of their game. Physical build would also affect the view of recoil. Age would affect eye sight etc etc

Great idea but I would think impossible to get any serious view from. I feel that you will get lots of opinions though ..........

Nicola, this is a F O R U M........the idea is to provoke thought, discuss, debate, give opinions, listen to others opinions and finally form your own opinion.........

Would now be a good time to introduce my 'banginess' © scoring system ?

Quite. Sorry you did not like my opinion. .

I know it is a forum.......I have been here from the start .......

Could someone please correct the spelling mistake in the title? It's making me edgy. Thanks

I actually really like the idea, in principal it's perfectly possible to rate shells by things like recoil. There are plenty of examples of shells where they quickly get a reputation for being punchy, etc.

The only slight flaw I can see is that shells tend to have a rather geographical presence and spread. Over here for instance we just don't have the opportunity of buying brands such as Victory, Clever or even the various types of Fiocchi ! :( I've been looking for the F/Blu etc for a while now but not prepared to pay £silly postage.

Nicola, don't be sorry, nothing to do with not likeing your opinion, just trying to get you to open your mind!!! Listen, I'm not for one minute trying to say that a forum "opinion poll" is in any way scientific, but it dose, in my opinion, give a feel for general consensus. I'm sure we can all read a novice post and see it for just that, writen by a novice. As for phisical build distorting someones ability to "view" recoil........naw, they would be compairing recoil from cartridge "a" against whatever they percive to be normal, average for what they have experianced, recoil.

Appoliges to the English teacher :p

Tobi, I am a poor speller, deal with it!

p.s. You would be a fat lot of good in a crisis if that's all it takes to make you edgy!!! ;)

it all depends on the colour of the shot I hear......
Show's how little you know,it's the colour of the box the cartridges are packed in........unless the shot is copper colour, and the case says WinchesterXX 3" 53g.......I hear they tend to be a bit punchy ;)

p.s. The gold coloured shot from Fioccchi Golden trap/phesant, in my experiance is not too bad, very smooth shooting IMHO

I know what you meen Hamster, The Clever importer is just 40 minutes down the road, theres a guy who will get in any Fiocchi you want 30 mins away and Edith Barnes (used to, not been for a while) is 50 mins to the North with a great selection of Victory, but I can't think who sells what else in my area

OK...........

(Open my mind ........that's a new one for me......)

This could be a very interesting outcome and I do agree that people do perceive recoil differently sometimes due to the gun and stature of the shooter.

Phil

I dont see why it wouldnt work, but being open and impartial is almost impossible for most. Also, most people wont want to have to buy a load of different shells to try out Id guess?

But still could make fun reading if nothing else!

OK I'll start.

Eley Olympics, 28gm plaswad 7.5 shot £158/1000. Clean,reliable,consistent,acceptable recoil.

Kent Velocity, 28gm plaswad 7.5 shot £149/1000. Clean, reliable, consistent, a bit punchy on recoil.

Kent Velocity 28gm fibrewad 7.5 shot £4.50/25. Clean, no 'confetti',reliable, consistent, definitely punchy on recoil.

Vic.

Fiocchi Top 1... 28g Plastic wad ,7 1/2 £150 a thousand..Smooth to shoot and reliable :)

Yep, I'd go along with both Robo and VicW except I have never shot the fibre Kent Velocity.
