"If costs increase, either prices increase or profits reduce; neither are desirable"

Desirable for the business no - not the customer - and if that's taken a step further an increase in profit is always good and thus it's a question of how far you can increase the price mindful of supply/demand. When we look at the price of cartridges the concern is that some of the recent increases do not correlate to cost increases at all.

Much depends in the example above on whether the 'stupid & naive' guy has had a commensurate pay rise to match the increases or whether he is in fact saying that, to him, the burger is now too expensive. The £14 might be the real price but he doesn't now want to pay it because he learnt during lockdown to make as good a burger at home.
The situation in the pub was different. He listed lots of things that had increased for him, but he couldn’t understand or accept how they had also increased for businesses (in many cases much worse than for him). So he thought it was a rip off and unjustified, hence the ‘stupid and naive’.

Re the increase in business costs, I would suggest the increases in prices vary rarely reflect any increased costs exactly. Business is far more complicated than that. The cost of production (including inflation) is just one factor in almost every single item you ever buy. Cartridges are no exception.

All of that being said, I’m confident that a) shooting will continue and b) there isn’t a cartel or collusion. I respect that you may hold a different opinion and I’m happy to agree to disagree.
