What do you all take to the hide with you? What are you paying? Had a good couple of hours yesterday with a bag of odd's and sod's......RC Sipe, Fiochhi Pigeon, Black Glod, Eley V.I.P. and Golden Phesants in 32g 5's. ( a cartridge bag I bought with 100 "mixed game shells" ) Took two boxes of 28g 7 1/2 Super Targets to try on pigeons.

Out to 40yds, with 1/2 choke the 7 1/2's were giving better kills than the Fiochhi pigeon  , not impressed with them, shot with 7 1/2 first barrel and 5's second barrel untill I ran out of 7 1/2's.......150/69 birds.

Had a ring round the local shops, best price for 32g 5's were Clever "Basic Game" @ £210/1000 or £52.50/250. Clever Super Target 28g 7 1\2 are £158/1000 or £39.50/250. Think I'll get 250 Basic Game 5's and take them and a slab of 7 /12's next time I'm out......7 1/2 on the first bird and 5's up the arse of the second was working well yesterday.

Never had and good pigeon shooting untill this year, got into a syndicate, 14,000 acers of arable land and woods, pigeons, ducks, geese and 300 walked up pheasants. :D

Had been shooting noblesport 28g fibre 7.5s Euro (7 english) decent enough shell but lacked a bit of punch for passing birds. Just bought some Kent velocity fibre pigeon (29g 6s) from just carts at 183 per thou and they seem to be a decent buy. Cheapest fibre 6 shot by a good margin :.:

I agree the 7.5's seem to be better than say 5's or even 6's as far as I'm concerned. Habitually always shot 7's if I could help it, in the old days it was easy as you just used Winchester Trap 100 7.5's for clays and pigeon; being Italian loaded they were true 7's of course and even today I struggle to think of a better shell over decoys, sadly no longer available.

I found bigger shot seems to be less reliable and inflicts a lot of bruising damage to the meat. You get the odd scorcher with 34g of 5's but I'm happy to trade that for more clean kills more of the time. What I tend to do when I win a few shells at the odd shoot is to ask for the brands that are known to load 7's in their 7.5 shells. That way you can just about avoid buying shells specifically for pigeon. One of the best all rounders is 32g of 6.5's with a plastic wad.

The shells I was using were Clever Mirage 30.5gram 6's and found them pretty good, won't buy them in felt wad again as they are a bit pricey and give a fair whack if not using a semi.

My choice ....

yes remember them well, used to use em on pigeons through an aya yeoman side by side, black shoulder etc, used to say on box low recoil, smokeless thats a laugh, once you,d pulled the trigger, watched the flames and smoke die down, picked yourself up off the floor from the recoil you could go pick your pigeon up, l.o.l. They certainly killed well though.

did use eley hb pigeon 30 grm 6's but got a bit much in the side x side. got an old baikal and used nobel smini's 28grm 6's and they were good. haven,t shot any pigeons for a year :(

dangerous dave is trying super fast 71/2 and he likes them.

Stocked up on Clever 32g 6's today, hopefully get out for an hour or two on Wednesday........
