Short list for me! First gun an absolute old nail of a beretta 686 28", had for a year, then an old school 682 30", very good bit of kit, then a K80. Been shooting the K80s for (I think) 15 odd years and won't shoot anything else for the rest of my time, everything else feels flimsy and horrible!

My first was a second hand B Ultra T+...had it for 2 seasons, but was convincing myself that I need a sporter with x chokes and selective trigger. Got into store and saw MK70 with great wood and all the rest is history.

Do I regret getting rid of it - selling wasn't going well - so at the end I refinished the stock in oil...shooting better coincided with selling time that lasted for a couple of months (I have shot some top scores even with borrowed guns then)...and the further it lasted the least i wanted to sell it...in the end I did and bought MK70 - I don't regret it - would I do it again? - probably not. Scores picked up where I left them with B gun - tho I found out that sporter is not mandatory, nore I need x chokes and selective trigger...would love to try K80 once but there isn't a single one here or near so I am a happy camper atm.

1987- 686S 28" basic gun that I'd bought for pigeon shooting moved on to clays so sold on 1994 to fund a 687 SP2 30", shot like a turkey for years before having the sense to see someone who politely told me the stock really didn't fit and rather than have it fitted moved in 2004 into a 682 GoldE 32", recently saw a dt10 a model which I'd always aspired to be able to shoot with , when out of the rack felt moulded into my mitts so I bought, I wouldn't have if it didn't feel "right"

have never regretted moving on, each move was a progression of sorts

my scores are nothing exceptional, never felt that the gun has affected my shooting, my own inabilities trip me up

Oh forgot very well shot Sunday at Weston Wood, sun did shine there in more ways than one, went to Longridge I'm blaming the fog :)

The reason newbies change their guns several times in the first years is ( and I include myself in this) seeing a good shot breaking clays and making it look easy, you say to yourself " if I had that gun or that length barrel I could do that "   it takes several years before you realise that if you gave Mr digweed a 26" Baikal he would still beat 90% of us.

Since 1983 I've had a few! 2 x Winchester 101's, Beretta's, 1 x 687, 3 x 682's (one was really the wife's). 1 x miroku 3800, 1 x hatsan (still got), 1 x kemen and now a Blaser and a side by side for game!'

They were generally changed because of upgrades or worn them out!  yes you can before anybody says you cant wear a gun out!  Apart from the Beretta's which I have never really shoot well with, don't know why persevered for so long with them! Wont buy another.

Hi Sian,  :) x

Still have my first gun, albeit set up a little better than last time .,

I know there is a bit of fine tuning ob both the gun & me  still to happen, so its a keeper.

i look at semi's from time to time and think  i want, but in reality will it change things?

Yes i might get a quick psycological boost, with some minor score improvements, but thats about all.

Ive shot with it for the 6 months  since i had my last  fit & coaching session,

The next step is a  more detailed fitting session and then on to some dedicated coaching

As the saying goes, "if it aint broke, why fix it?", and its a lovely bit of kit too

:santa: x
Apart from which,  it is approaching that time of year when you will be too busy supplying new guns to the rest of us !      :D

I've had a couple of Brownings although, to be honest, never really got on with them. I switched to Winchester and was one of the first to shoot a Select Energy. Although the quality of manufacture was questionable it suited me. I kinda wish I hadn't sold it as it served me well and I shot some big scores with it including my first skeet 100.

I switched to Krieghoff in 2007 and haven't looked back.

I got fed up paying off my children's credit cards, deposits for houses, car loans which I never got back, weddings in Mexico, receptions in England, it goes on, generally they were taking all my hard earned money..

So I brought my self a very expensive K80 Supersport with two sets of barrels whilst I still had some money left and they are getting no more.

So everyone out there with children growing up to leaving home age its great when they go but it costs a fortune to get rid of them.
Did you pay extra for the crack in the stock?

Yes it's amazing just how many of you have been good, miraculously in the last 30 days of the year ., despite the previous 11 months being posted on here

If all goes to plan, i'm off from the 18th to the 10th ;)   with the usual rush over the 25th .

Hi Sian

I took up shooting relatively late in life at 50, eight plus years ago:

1) How long did you have your first gun?

5 years, a 30" Browning Ultra XS Titanium bought new

2) Was your second gun better or did you regret getting rid of your first gun?

Foolishly perhaps I got tempted to try one of John Jeffries HPX Perazzi, had an OMG experience not expecting there to be such a significant difference, ordered a 33" SR1 Sporter with options - it was everything I'd hoped and I never regretted parting with the XS, excellent though it was (also got back what I paid for it 30,000 shells later).

3) What was your honest motive for changing your gun?

Curiosity  initially, I had read about and seen/picked up an HPX (and a couple of the other competition orientated guns) at the CLA and just wanted to experience it for myself (detrimental to the bank balance).

4) Was it an instant success or did your scores drop for a while.

Instant success although 'Newgunitis' is an affliction that seems to get most shooters, and yes I had a few less than pleasant outings (usually when the bit between my ears gets overly involved in the process) but overall the scores were incrementally better as the weeks rolled by...

I must be the exception to the rule here

First gun Parker Hale 602 ( got stolen after 11 months ) 1986

replaced with a second hand Lamber  1987

shot it till it fell apart 1991

replaced with a second hand Beretta 687 1991

Still using it today it's like triggers broom !it's on its 4 th stock ( first too low in the comb, second cracked ,third fell on it and broke it ,fourth true beretta adjustable it's 30 years old this next year shot in excess of 140,000 cartridges .Gave it a service and swapped the hinge pins around last year all springs 29 years old still going strong

I have had holidays longer than Dr Lecter has had some guns

Lost count of all the guns I've owned, most were either Miroku or Perazzi, with a few Beretta's and a K80 thrown in. My current gun (MX2005) was bought to help cure a neck issue, by using a more head up position, seems to work too. No plans to change gun again.

I managed a self heal on a neck issue, Les......................I just stopped sticking it out !

How long did you have your first gun?

Had 686 E from new, used and abused it for a few years.

Was your second gun better or did you regret getting rid of your first gun?

Second gun definitely better but a different beast in handling terms. Part of the reason to change.

What was your honest motive for changing your gun?

Fancied a change to something completely different.

Was it an instant success or did your scores drop for a while.

not an instant success by any stretch, hold points etc all needed adjusting. (also went from occluding left eye to both eyes unobstructed)

First gun I had was a baikel, when I was 17 then beretta at 21, miroku mk 38, for my own 40th present, I still have them all, still shoot them all. And really don't why I bought them , but glad I have them , I'm nearly 52 , and looking at perrazzI   I know I can't shoot shoot them I've tried several. But they do look appealing

Typo in there Rowley, your nearly 62 and still shoot a Miroku quite well so why change to a Spaghetti gun???

Pete. You are correct -typo due to not having arms long enough anymore to see what I'm typing, I have some readers somewhere, I've managed to loose 8 pairs from the pound shop in the last few weeks, perhaps that's why paratzzi look good ?

How long did you have your first gun?

First clay gun was a Winchester 101 Diamond Grade Sporter I had it for 8 years.

Was your second gun better or did you regret getting rid of your first gun?

Second was a Browning B325 Grade 5 Sporter. No regrets on selling the Winchester

What was your honest motive for changing your gun?

I had a problem with the Winchester‘s trigger recoil system and was advised that as there were no spares ready available to repair it if it failed completely the parts would have to be custom made. In hindsight it would have been cheaper than changing.

Was it an instant success or did your scores drop for a while.

The scores did improve but not substantially. The Browning had better balance.

Which guns do I regret selling?

 1. AYA 25.
 2. AYA No 2.
 3. Perazzi MX8.
 4. Beretta A303 Supersport.
Which Guns will I never sell.

Browning B25 (bought new in 2004)

Browning B525 Heritage (bought new 2015)

I have had those "guns I would never sell" ............... Sold em.
