It’s just a case of ‘ gun fitness ‘ the more you do it the less of a problem it becomes .

Another little tip , don’t hold the loaded gun with the barrel on your shoulder like a sentry . It’s bad practice for so many reasons , particularly doing a Kurt Kobain if you drop it butt first .
I must admit, as I wrote the shoulder comment, I did realise that a) I didn’t actually do that and b) it would be a damn stupid thing to do.

If I am shooting alone, I hold the closed and loaded gun in my right hand and push the buttons with my left hand. I either clip the buttons to the shooting stand or stick them in the left pocket of my skeet vest.
I am first and foremost a game shooter, I am therefore used to holding the gun in my right hand, with the stock on my right hip, barrels at about 45° pointing forwards and upwards, (on a clay ground, not a game shoot). Press the button with my left hand, then drop the gun down into my left hand, and I'm 'good to go' ! I have many years of shooting experience and I find this works well enough for ME. Like every sport, the more you do, the more familiar you get.

Doveridge use foot pedals?
A place local ish to me (Sycamore Shooting Ground) have both hand and foot pedals I’m assuming for solo shooters. I find the task of shooting while slightly on one foot far more off putting than I would have first assumed. If nothing else it re affirmed how important stance must really be 😂 it’s not a myth 😝

I shoot solo quite often (Billy no mates!) and this is what I do.

I spent an hour or two at Kelbrook Lodge this morning . The shooting stands there are the benchmark for self buttoning . On the left hand side of every stand at the front is a specific bracket to locate the hand set , be it a two button or multi button unit , they are located at a very convenient height to press then move your hand to the forearm . Also their stands are in A1 condition and the materials of construction protect your gun from damage , which unfortunately is not a given at some other Northern grounds I’ve visited lately .

Couldn’t agree more with the lack of care for some grounds stands. Some appear to have been actively made to try and damage your gun. I’m a fan of the wooden ones personally although at your local ground there’s a couple made out of pvcu piping and elbows which work well and fold away flat so the cows don’t break them 👍🏼 to be fair to remake them now would be massively expensive with the price of elbows etc these days 😂

It's NOT elbows I'm looking for.......it's knees 😂
