Well in the US just like in the UK and France there is only one official importer so quantity pif paf, Vat 20%, exchange rates well that can go both diretions so I don't think its too much of a gamble remember my price quotes are for a cost of €200/1000 . I forgot to mention if I buy 5k at a time I save €10 per thousand not much but 5% is better than a poke in the eye. I could be way off the mark but I think the importer sets the cost for the carts pries almost the same in Spain, maybe cheaper! On the subject of transport the deal is anywhere in France (mainland) 48hr del free and that can be the same as lands end to John o Groats! The Rio's are great value at €160/1000 .

Importer's margin then - ripoff Britain again!

We do see it all the time don't we?

That's why Lidl and Aldi are shocking our traditional grocers whose margins are presumably too great

And they rip off the suppliers like the milk farmers who didn't help themselves selling direct which caused the Milk Marketing Board to close and that left them open to abuse.

Perhaps sole importers should be outlawed as it creates a monopoly of supply open to abuse - Discuss!

I'm surprised there is not more grey importing like there was several years ago.

It certainly shook things up a bit in the gun trade particularly. Now we seem to have lapsed back into the "official" routes only.

Perhaps we are happy being ripped off now?

So, can you pop over to France and stock up on cartridges at a better price and bring them back into the UK like you can with wine etc?

Can you bring cartridges through customs if in possession of a SC?

Can you buy cartridges overseas on a british SC?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, just wondering.....

Yes but not on the tunnel (limited amount allowed by air and ferry)

Yes red channel iirc ( is for bullet heads)

Not on SGC but on EFP you can (in Europe only)

I really don't think the savings are there on cartridges alone to justify the trip but if you had thought about adding alcohol and tobacco to the mix it might be worth it. Can you imagine the looks you would get at reception when they check your vehicle? 10k 12 bore cartridges - check, 500 bottles of assorted wines - check, 100 bottle mixed spirits - check, 10k cigarettes - check.... are these items all to be used / consumed by your good self sir? :)

I use the tunnel regularly. You can take any quantity with you ...but suggest that you leave slabs unopened or have them in magazines. Great opportunity to pick up Mary Arm. I have come back many times with car loaded up with cartridges, booze, etc.

Flying is a different matter. 5 kgs going out.....and if you want no hassle...then do not bring any back.

Interesting that you should mention Mary Arm Nic as not surprisingly they are very popular around here. I was talking to a very good Trapshooter who rated the Mary Arm Cyrano as being as good as the Fiocchi golden trap he was using, in fact he went on to say quite vociferously that he defied anybody to tell the difference if the markings were cleaned off. I was asking where he got the Fiocchi's because you don't see them around here that much but he had got them as part of a competition prize so I have still not tried them out although I am happy with the Clever's.

I bought a few thou of Fiocchi   back from Italy in August via the tunnel, and a reasonable saving was made.

Have often thought about going to France and buying 5k mixture of B&P (fast trap). Would need/like a supplier near Calais and English speaking. Any suggestions?

You know - I have never thought about this option.  And I'm in France all the damn time...

Is there anything that people need to know about buying shells in France - do you need a French SGC - or will the EFP do that job?

Matt....

Mary Arm used to just show up at grounds with a van and people just bought them. Also bought many supermarket 9's from Decathlon when over there in the old Fitasc sporting days . Just bunged them on the trolley and off you went.

I love the way France works... might have a little experiment when I am over there at Christmas.

You cannot buy them in supermarkets any more but Decathlon stock a good range in the big stores. The Solognac cartridges are very popular and in my opinion, not that it counts for much, good the 24g trap carts are very good. The cartridges are made by cheddite so I am lead to believe. You need to show a license to shoot... EFP and SGC ?

It is an old Fitasc sporting saying...the supermarket ....it means Decathlon ...

Ah I see... when I first started travelling to France you could actually buy cartridges in the bigger super/hyper markets! Kilo of horse some nice fresh veg and 250 12bore carts ... normal shopping for the hunger hunter :)

Didn't know that it the ferrys that limit you?
