Bought an MX8 a couple of months and have a couple of questions for other Perazzi owners. The gun is about 2007 but had only fired a couple of hundred cartridges since new when I bought it.

First, when opening the gun, unless I push the lever all the way over it returns to the middle, even though the gun is open. Prior to closing the gun I have to push the lever fully over to get it to engage (the gun can be closed with the lever in the middle but I don't want to cause undue wear to the locking points). Never experienced this with my MK38 so am wondering if it has a fault (worn part) are are 'they all like that sir"?

Second, the barrels are choked 3/4 and full but both are considerably tighter than the 3/4 and full on my MK38? Is choke sizing not standard in the industry?

Thirdly, is it possible to retro fit a multi choke in the bottom barrell of a fixed choke barrel as the barrell wall thickness appears very thin to start off with ?

Appreciate any (constructive) responses

perazzi chokes are tighter than standard chokes. they offer 7 & 10 or 9 & 10 as standard trap chokes. so 28/1000 or 32/1000 as the bottom barrel and 40 thou as top.

you can have teagues fitted but IMHO i use 9 & 10 and think that choke is a distraction for trap.

i'd leave as is.

Have your H block checked....! (with someone who knows what they are doing)  ;)

Choke sizing is standard but it's constriction amount from the actual bore size and therefore varies from gun to gun. Your MK38 probably has .740" bores whereas the MX8 will be much tighter, possibly even .724". The chokes will measure to different actual sizes by the same amount as the difference in the actual bore sizes.

The amount of ' Choke ' is the difference between the barrel bore measurement and the muzzle bore measurement. Different gun's might have different bore measurement's

I must have been typing when you posted Westward

in regards to it not holding the top lever open check the pin to close it isnt stuck in

It's normal. If you don't push the lever all the way to where it locks open, then no problem. The locking lugs will just get pushed back when you close the gun. Nice curved surfaces on the barrel sliding against rounded lugs. No wear.

Or like I said.....it could be the H block. Classic.

This^^

Take the barrels off, push the top lever over, then lube the pin and push it in and out a bunch of times.  Sometimes they stick and / or get some crap in them, which stops them working properly.

Nothing wrong with release pin once I have pushed the lever all the way over. The question was if I don't push the lever all the way over when opening the gun it doesn't stay over.

not exactly no wear but nothing to worry about ;)

as for my previous comment i thought he was indicating the top lever never stayed open even when pushed completely over

Thanks for the responses guys and gal. The general consensus seems to be that's it perfectly normal so I'll live with it.

Don't even contemplate closing it without the lever open..the strain on the top-lever casting snaps it. Yes I have. And don't bother asking Mauro Perazzi if you can have it open to full gape without pulling - he won't allow it. To say he wasn't impressed when I had a non-ejector built is an understatement. A lot of arm waving was involved.
