Following the topic on the SW region AGM.......

Having just got back into clay shooting after a couple of years break from it, I was considering re-joining the CPSA.

Originating from Northants, where we were spoilt for choice with registered shoots, I am struggling with the 'do I' / 'dont I' decision.

At the moment I cant see any compelling reason as to why I should re-join though, as CPSA reg shoots in this area are so few and far between I cant see any benefit? (I already have insurance so that benefit is lost).

Am I wrong here? Am I missing something? What do other SW forum members think?

Please note this is NOT a CPSA bashing post, I really am interested in what other SW shooters think & do..

Well we are not over run with shooting grounds in the South West, however you still have a few decent places to shoot in Devon! If you don't want to shoot registered shoots or shoot for the county and you have insurance, well I guess there's not much point joining really. I wish I could say that it would give you a voice, however the politicians of shooting up at CPSA HQ, appear to pay scant attention to us grass roots shooters, or even to county committees come to that! Your local county CPSA is probably run by a decent bunch of local guys who do their best for the sport and the members, so it would probably be good to join just to support them! At the end of the day it's up to you.

Are you kidding? There's only Northampton Shooting Ground and that's hardly a favourite when it come to registered events.

Ah, forgive me. I forget there are non trap disciplines out there.
Unfortunately Jan, in this country we trap shooters are now a minority group! An endangered species in fact!! Perhaps we should get David Attenborough to make a documentary about us!

We are working with 3 grounds in the SW region who will all hopefully be doing some registered sporting this year, Dorset Shooting School (near Southern Counties), High View Clay Shoot In Launceston, Cornwall and Ladyswood Shooting School at the top of the region near Bristol. North Cornwall SG have also just added a registered UT layout to their DTL & ABT layouts.

None trap !

Why in the name of all things holy would one wish to shoot anything other than trap ?
Sssshhhh.........you will upset the hedge monkeys YET AGAIN!!!! :spiteful:

You're quite right ips. Perhaps they don't know that you don't have to paddle around in the rain and mud? Perhaps they're unaware of the luxury of shooting a covered layout?

Anyway, let's keep it to ourselves shall we. If we're not careful they'll be camouflage clothing and muddy boots congesting our trapline!

If you have been shooting for a long time do you not consider that it might be a good idea to put something back into shooting? Join the CPSA and the County committee and use your knowledge to help others enjoy their shooting. It doesn't always have to be about you, you know.

Awww shucks you guys, so funny again..

Gotta feel sorry for you. The hedge monkeys are eating from the international buffet, while you guys are stuck with a Pot Noodle. Wait that's unfair. You have two or three flavours of Pot Noodle.. :)

Sorry for asking!
