it always makes me laugh that people get so stressed about this yet turn up with £15k of Krieghoff shooting shells at £250 a thou........something goes up by considerably less than the  inflation rate and people still get sniffy about it....

and while im ranting..........each cartridge has a primer (2 components plus ignition powder) a base wad, a case, a head, a shotwad, propellent powder and of course lead shot (or steel if i really want to pick a fight ;) )  so thats a precision engineered product made up of 9 separate components thats undergone some of the most exacting quality control practices known to man  and it costs for arguments sake 18 pence each. Now i might be a bit dull but I cant think of much that you can get for 18p these days....

I've got my little 525, I pay no more that £160 per thou......... & I didn't sniff once, honest :frown:

Sorry don, but like you said, you gotta laugh!

You know what they say boys, if you have to ask what it does to the gallon, you really cant afford it !!!! :)

Price rise or no price rise, would joining the CPSA be of any benefit to me? I would like to shoot competitions, mainly at game/country fairs, but occaisionally at organised shoots at shooting grounds such as the FITASCs and ESP locally at places like Grimsthorpe.

Would not being a member prohibit me shooting competitively, albeit in only a small way?

I take it that membership is only paid annually, monthly not being an option. If it were, then I wouldn't mind a few quid a month going towards something I may or may not use.

If it were for purely insurance purposes, the joining BASC would be the thing and they do offer a monthly option.

Every week, at least once I pay between £26 - £35.00 on clays to put £16.00 in cartridges through my gun having also spent £1 on some warm flavoured water and over £2 on a bacon roll, do I think the CPSA fee, at around £1 a week gives me, an irregular competition shooter value, yes.

And I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, that it offers the same insurance as BASC at a similar price.

I'm currently in BASC but considering changing on renewal.

Agreed, on my annual shooting budget it is a speck of a drop in the ocean. What amazes me is that there are about 26,000 members, but only 6000 or so shoot any registered competition. I think the figure for those shooting more than about 5 per year is way less than that. Weird.

why not just fork out the grand for life membership? if (fingers crossed) I dont snuff it til I'm 75 (or more like it guns are banned and the cpsa folds) my membership would work out at £28.31 per year. Obviously for some of you old duffers you may end up paying double

Hi SteveK

If you are thinking of shooting competitions it would be wise to join CPSA to get your scores logged etc.

You are going to need insurance anyway so for the difference in cost i would join up for the other competition based benefits.

Had my life membership since the early 80's, must have saved me a "kings Ransom" over the years.

Well it's official, had my membership renewal in the post today, £63 is the figure quoted, where the hell am I supposed to get that extra quid from, I can't afford this extravagance any longer, I'm off !!!!

Anyone wanna buy a Krieghoff ??

:)

Oh I do make myself laff !!!!

That's damn expensive for what's on offer. 99% of shooters get nothing from the CPSA other than PULL! magazine once a month. Of course the insurance cover is invaluable should it be needed but, as were generally a very safe bunch, it's money for old rope really.

My NSSA membership is around half my CPSA membership and they send me a magazine (that's a damn sight better than PULL!) from the USA each month.

Oh, and don't forget, we can't vote with our feet. Want to shoot for your county, region or country you have to be a member.

Sorry but I have to disagree. The insurance alone is worth £63 a year to me, just like I insure my car, vans, and house, I actually hope I never need to claim ! You keep on mentioning this shooting for your country/county etc, I'm never going to be good enough for this, so why do you keep harping on about it, are you good enough, if so, do you? And if you do, what's you real identity, as at present, your a load of numbers and no picture ? Do the NSSA give insurance? Why don't you join either the Welsh or Scottish equivalent, I have in fact looked the prices up and relayed them in one of my previous posts on this thread and you would indeed save money? I apologise if I seem to be an arse about all of this, but you seem to me and a few others to be whinging about such a trivial amount of money for an essential item (insurance) in what we all agree isn't the cheapest of past times to be involved in?

It's not compulsory.

If it sticks in anybody's throat that badly, they could always abstain. I wouldn't lose any sleep :yell:

Bish bash bosh

I realise that you mean the CPSA but your post made me wonder how many people shoot without insurance in the same way that car insurance seems to have become optional to some people!
