is it right that shooters who have only shot 100 or even 200 targets in a discipline should be ranked at all. Each year we see shooters ranked no 1 in something having only shot one comp surely this is not right. The top 20 listing has the right idea a minimum 500 (I think) from a minimum of 3 grounds now that gives a better indication.

If you look at your ranking in a given discipline and remove these one off shooters you may be suprised were you are in reality.

Even the top 20 are a joke. Look at some of the people who get in and they shoot 3 local grounds god knows how many times and thats it. Make it 2000 birds from 6-7 grounds and it might be half sensible.

Point taken, however as far as trap is concerned having 3 grounds to shoot reg OT UT ABT comp within 150 mile radius is a task in itself so anyone in the top 20 in any of those truly has travelled for his sport. Sporting I no nothing about but suspect you are correct.

Ed i can see where your coming from as there are many  who worry about their averages above all , and some suspiously seem to have shot not a lot of reg. targets, but that aside . I think a lot of disciplines you would have to drive the length and breadth of the country to shoot 6/7 grounds if at all possible ,whereas shooting sporting at that amount of different grounds i don't think would be to difficult . But definitely agree with you as someone who has shoot 10,000 + targets has a harder job maintaing their average than someone who has shot only a few hundred targets for the same average .

I agree to a point but this only really applies to ESP and Fitasc, the method disciplines are perhaps less affected from ground to ground ? I always enjoy seeing who's made the top 20 though, to see a 95 average from GD for instance or a 92+ from ChrisMoonmileChilderhouse out of 11500 thousand targets is just awesome.

Exactly, Chris is a great example. He eats sleeps and breathes shooting and to hold the average he does over 100+ shoots is a huge achievement. Georges 95 is obviously a huge score, but Id guess (not got a mag with me) not over that many shoots/local grounds.

George is a bad example as he has nothing to prove by doing a ton of reg shoots, obviously, but you can see where it can be a false indication of ability.

Actual averages arent any interest to me, its more of a knowing how you have performed at the big shoots, or whatever your goals are.

Chasing an average is bad news for performance.

Noted re trap/skeet as by definition its all the same give or take.

The annual rankings in the disciplines are probably the most useless and pointless bits of information ever, ever, ever.

They mean absolutely nothing to me, I don't even bother to read them anymore, I am certainly never impressed by the names that appear, and the "steps" that some people will take to get into that top 20 is beyond pitiful to the point of out and out bloody cheating. (and NO don't ask me to name names 'cos Admin will have a fit

It should be scrapped IMHO  -  it is Bullsh*t with a capital "S"

Who gives a crap anyway?

Are we going to scrap anything competitive while we're at it? Sounds like a 1970s Socialist mantra.

Scrap competitive sports because the fat boys can't hack it..... :yell:

Not doing any harm, I suppose some people want the whole classification system sacking off too, then we can all be social shooters, until we die of boredom.....

Maybe nobody just an observation really.

My point was If we are going to have a ranking then for whatever reason and for who ever may give a crap then it should not be a misleading reflection of how you compare with Mr x

UNQUOTE

I am not sure to what you refer but I can tell you that cheating in any way in trap is virtually impossible.

Ooooer missus . . . . . touched a little nerve there did we ???

Firstly, you have absolutely no idea about my political leanings !!!

Secondly, I can call myself fat (and regularly do so) but you don't know me well enough to be so f**king personal, so keep your personal comments to yourself  !!!

Thirdly, I made no comment about the "Classification System" (which I do show great interest in by the way and always shoot registered comps when I can - which is almost every single week) just the Rankings, which is what this thread was initially all about until you opened your gob !!!

OK, so I apologise for the outburst, but people shouldn't get personal on here.

It was my opinion and I'm entitled to it . . . . . . and it didn't slag off any individual. Nevertheless, it was not intended to offend anybody.
