I can recommend the UT at Cloudside but pick your weather carefully. Let me know when you want a visit.

Its some abt within 1 hr away that I am interested in. New season approaches and I wonder how beneficial it is to shoot ot on a sat as practice, particularly in the light we have had lately. Unless of course we can have a word and get a decent abt trap up and running ?

This years ABT selections are at S/Counties, Beverley, Brook Bank, NCSC and Home International at Loch Ness. All will be out of Trench layouts which is a very different proposition to dedicated ABT layouts. All bar one of those grounds is four hours from you. Your only option is ABT at Beverley once a month but I can recommend the UT at Cloudside.

Good point, never considered that, well I am definately up for cloudside on the 1st sat we are all available. I am clear every sat for the forceable so you give me a date and I will be there, sure allan wont take much persuading and Tony would be up for it I am sure, paul also if he can get a day pass :)

As unusual as this may seem, but I've shot ABT and DTL at Cloudside!!!

Unfortunately it was roughly about 1982 with a mate from college who I was staying with at his place near Congleton. It's not often I stray too far north, but this was one of those rare occasions where I risked the icebergs and polar bear attacks that you guys suffer up there. I remember it was high up and the background was a whole load of nothing, so I assume that's a good thing.

I was there when a character called Blaster Bates (a local comedian I was told) was shooting. Lovely bloke but couldn't understand a word he said (language barrier I'm afraid), I only spoke Southern English then.

Visited a few other grounds in the area (Sporting) and did fairly well, but cannot remember the names of them. One was connected with a pub with the ground just the other side of the road (Flowerpot?) not sure.

I have no idea about my score. Most likely single figures??  :sarcastic:

I was probably there then Tiptop, here's an old Blaster Bates track from Youtube

I shot U.T. there last year. Lovely ground with stunning views, good clubhouse. It was rather expensive, if my memory serves me right it was £9.00 per round. Apparently they charged these prices to keep it a bit exclusive.

I'm not sure but I think the targets may have been a bit on the easy side as I shot 89x100 and this was the first time I had shot U.T.

I called in to the ground one day in 2012, Zoli etc were having an open day [i like the Bentley ones best] and Hull Cartridge were giving away cartridges, sales manager and everything. I opted for a box of DTL 300s and straighted the UT layout in front of the clubhouse. Reporting back he said pop over for a word when it's gone quiet. What I needed really was a 10,000 cartridge contract but when nobody could see I was handed a cartridge head lapel button. Such is life.

Generous to a fault I see!

Getting you to promote the product for free!

Who do they think they are that we should lap up such crumbs

That lapel button is a treasured souvenir now Robert. And always good for a story.

Excelent idea Ian,  I would def. be up for that. Fred is right though, weather is critical at Cloudside.

Last time I shot ABT at Doveridge (on the ot layout) it was quite windy which kept setting the acoustics off and the mikes kept blowing over, only managed to shoot 3-4 targets before giving up!!.  Will go over in the near future and try again.  Al.

OK Fred, you've got me there mate!!! In what way is it a different proposition to a dedicated ABT layout?

Hi Les, sorry I'm late just back from Scotland. Trench layouts have quite sophisticated microphones and control boxes. ABT only layouts have five-open-microphone and no control box systems [you know the type]. The English CPSA have a habit of selecting ABT teams using trench grounds [thankfully] but if the destination is a land with ABTs only then the selected team may never have shot on one. Until recently it was our habit as you know to select OT teams to shoot Zaragoza during August by holding selection shoots in a snowstorm during April.

Did the British up st Loch Ness a couple of years back. From memory we shot on mixture of OT and Ball trap layouts. Good shoot from what little I can remember although a bit tempered as my gun started playing up an deciding on its own accord to intermittently ignore me pulling the trigger. Turned out to be that flapppy bit that reselects the second barrel from property engaging.

I wonder if theyll only use th OT trenches for the H.I.

You won't have that problem now that you have a dt10 :)
