Any none emirati is a lower class in Dubai,UAE, Saudi etc, and there is pecking order from europeans (Brits are not top) down to asians

Incredibly friendly place, amazing atmosphere and me and Ed didn't get locked up so clearly not that strict...

We are also the lowest in Iran. Those nutters would not even shake hands after any meeting...! Yet they would take the advice.......just saying from experience

Heard an interview with Camila Batmanghelidjh the daughter of an iranian doctor about her life  in iran before the religionuts took over, amazing story. Iran in the 60/70's was supposed to be an amazing cosmopolitan kind of place

Only the religious nutters Nicola, I once held my hand out for ages trying to greet someones mother wearing the full chador ! Eventually got told chador women don't shake hands with men folk   , I gather the bearded men contingent don't either. The vast majority though are perfectly normal but not shown often enough.

Yes I was talking about post Shah...!

I forgot to be clear.

Lots of places were fab prior to the problems religion caused or wars.

Lebanon for instance.

Religion doesn't cause problems or wars...religion is used as the justification for wars and gets blamed for people's unacceptable behaviour!!! Land causes wars...religion is used to justify taking someone's land from them,

"We are not conquering this land and killing its people for ourself...we are doing it in gods name (whoever that God may be!!!)"

:D

I have friends who live there but they are somewhat sheltered from the "real" society as they are in a gated community type thing and there children go to "English" school. They have not reported any problems in the 12 months they have been there but as I say there not in the real world.

Basically, it's full of different communities with little in common who have little to do with each other. Tell me how that's particularly different to the UK or France or the States.

BTW, in the various residential bits I know, there are some with a security guy but that's mainly to keep people from visiting certain areas that have free swimming pools!! It's not exactly South Africa - it's not a safety thing.

The Arab Women who shoot in Abu Dhabi all seem young is this a change of heart for the region?

There were a few UAE ladies and Kuwaiti ladies competing last year. I understand there's a keenness within the UAE to get more ladies shooting. Which is to be expected because, as noted, they are comparatively liberal countries.

I don't expect to be competing against Saudi ladies any time soon though!
