I have a friend who has been shooting a training cartridge with a 6mm high brass through their Beretta ASE I suggested they try Clever T2 as they are a good cartridge and as delivery is free they would not need to drive a 60 mile round trip to buy carts thus offsetting the difference in cost. First time of trying them they would not eject in fact a great deal of difficulty was had opening the gun. I have thought about this a bit an come to the conclusion it had something to do with the ejector timing. My thought is that the ejectors are ejecting the cartridges before the gun is fully open but because they have been using a cartridge that has only 6mm brass it does not catch on the breach and the plastic case get easily compressed allowing the gun to be opened and the empties ejected but because the Clever cartridge has 12mm brass the carts are fouling the breach face and not allowing the gun to open properly because the brass is not easily compressed and is catching on the breach. Has anybody got an idea what may be causing the gun not to open/eject properly? The only difference is in the height of the brass and the ejectors have been removed and cleaned. I have not had a look at the gun so I don't really know what is happening but it was just my thought this may be the problem.

Electors timing on beretta will either elect early onto the breech face or not at all ie late neither should cause the gun not to open. I have never experienced this or heard of it before on beretta. Cannot be further help other than to say the cause is probably elsewhere. Definitely interested in the conclusion though.

Just had a though i wonder if the firing pin is sticking into the primer or protruding a bit therefore not returning fully hence difficulty opening.

The gun would appear to open fine using the shells with the 6mm brass but not with the 12mm both are 70mm chamber??? I am taking what is left anyway and the user is returning to the previous cartridge but something is not quite right I have been using the same Clever cartridges for the past couple of months without problem in my gun... duff gun ? Only kidding Ian :)

Check rim thickness

You know I have never given a thought that the cartridges may be at fault! I have been using the same Clever T2 cartridges through my Perazzi without a problem. I also no that the person having the problem tried another high brass cartridge with exactly the same thing happening could not open the gun properly after the shot. All I know is I am getting the 900 cartridges that have not been used. A Beretta ASE is a quality gun and lever are quality cartridges I would expect the two to go well together but no!

Doc, my shoulder hurts

How does it hurt?

It hurts when I do this - can you fix it?

Don't do that

a similar effective lesson

or get a decent gun

I would be more inclined to give it to a competent gunsmith as this should not be happening.rather than try to effect any home repairs.never had any problems with any cartridge types I have used in any of the beretta guns I have owned over the years.
