Really enjoyed the layout but would be interested in the rationale behind £100 HG for a two day shoot when you've just advertised the 17/07 All Sporting with £175 HG !

Did 50% shoot birds only ? 2 day'er !!!! payout looks on the lean side ..... ? was told I missed a good shoot , but still find this pay out minimal to say the least ....

You misspelt abysmal.  :lol:

I would call it piss poor, won't be rushing back to use my HALF a free birds only entry????
So would I.

I am the first to admit people don't spend the thick end of a oner to try and win it back  :huh:  but a score like 98 or 97 on that kind of layout deserves a realistic payout, particularly so since it was run over two days. The OP & Southdown have had a decent chance to respond, perhaps they do think it was piss poor on reflection ?

The shoot wasn't cheap either, £39 if I understand it correctly although I had to pay £44 because of a £5 SouthsomethingCPSA subsidy  :rolleyes: :D  ! I thought you paid the CPSA a joining fee and that was that but it seems not.

You dont pay shoot levies in your part of the world? How do the counties and your region raise money to pay for trophies/caps/t shirts etc etc?

Hammy, unsure why the levy was £5 ???

I have run both England team selection shoots & regional inter-counties shoots in ESP & FSP, the regional cpsa commitee sets the required levy which is usually £2 per entrant (pretty much the same as a county committee sets levies for a county championship shoot)

The CPSA HQ sets the entry fees for the England FSP selection shoots & includes for £3 per entrant, exactly the same as Nat I/C ESP events.

Think Wylye will agree with this

I asked why it was £44 and was told £5 towards some levy or other, either way no real problem. I do really think Southdown need to speak up about the prize structure here though because it really is beyond a joke when they reap the benefits of a tasty number of entries over TWO days and somehow "forget" to up the ante on the prizes.

To say the next shoots prizes are bumped up because they had good entries on the shoot before is nothing short of comical. I take it that means if they get poor entries on one of their shoots people should stay away from the one after that !

:angel: sounds like that ground is run by a bunch of amateurs.

The cpsa rules for staging a registered event clearly state that the entry fee for birds only & competition should be clearly advertised at point of entry with the price difference of the 2 being the guaranteed contribution into each lettered class prize fund for that shoot on that day/s, not for a future shoot !!.

We pay back one in five places & regularly payout 5 places in class

Not wishing to sidetrack the prize fund issue my eyes where drawn to the 1 county team short on numbers and two county teams not present at all, was a English Sporting event which boasts high entry numbers virtually everywhere.

Its easy to moan when you dont know the facts of the situation. Levies and prize funds seem to be a constant mystery to a lot of shooters but its really basic and not too difficult to understand. The less scrupulous of shoot organisers can very easily use this to their advantage without fear of being discovered. Its a shame that the honest ones like Phil and others are not appreciated or recognised.

I do hope it hasn't come across as moaning, as a member of the CPSA I have stated I am interested in the rationale of the prize splits. Presently it looks as though HG didn't even exist and 1st (sorry 2nd is a miserly £60 ! Third shared by four shooters appears to be around £100 ( :huh:  come again) and paid out in half entry fees which of course means posting them on is going to prove a tad difficult and 300 mile trippers are simply likely to forget about it.

A class appears to be a healthy (just) £160 split between 1st and 2nd but 3rd is somehow again half price entries ! Call me Poirot with good hair but isn't A class usually the most well attended ? I'm sure it's all done correctly but seeing how it all came to this after TWO days would be nice.

They cannot publish prize fund on the day as they don't know how many they are getting. I suppose the prize they advertise for future shoots is their own money.

Even with specific CPSA rules most grounds seem to do what they like, some are very good which show up the poor ones. The £5.00 comp entries and its distribution should be shown somewhere. May be on CPSA website against number of entries.

Wonder really if it's worth going birds only and not have the worry.

Its nice to receive a SDown 1st Cap, but when you have 3 how many more do you need.

Numbers at shoot by class

AAA = 50

AA = 59

A = 54

B = 41

C = 34

No class = 4

for those that like maths

Just checked from the first Eng selection shoot at barrow Heath

a two day event

I was joint 3rd in AAA with two others payout was 70 quid eachwhich

I was very happy with indeed and it was a 250 miler for me !!

i had Phil moss running ? Across

the car park at the Essex masters a week later to give me my money

That would mean the top paid out class of AA has pulled 109 entries on its own, more than A & B combined  :mellow:  so hardly being a killjoy Victor Meldrew asking about the payout structure ? Unless a vast percentage went birds only ? Does anyone know how to access the make up ?

Also interested to find out whether 3rd prize winners who presumably paid their prize subsidy in cash  :blink:  can be expected to take winnings in entries which are basically non transferable vouchers !

I have always paid the prize subsidy because I want the top shots to win a half decent pot, if this doesn't happen then I would like to know so I can adjust my entry habits accordingly.

Hi Guys

I will try and answer the matters you have mentioned above

firstly the entry fee for the all sporting will be £39 comp and £36 birds only.

Here is the break down of the prize fund for the selection shoot.

Breakdown of entry fee:

Competition       £44.00 (£36 targets, £3 prize fund, £5 SE Region Levy)  Sandie Buckler set the levy so any q’s about that to her J

Birds only            £36.00 (same price as practice, 36p per clay)

Juniors comp     £24.50 (£18 targets, £1.50 prize fund, £5 SE Region levy)

Colts comp          £5 (£5 SE Region levy)

CPSA Entries 259 of which 17 B/O, 13 Juniors, 9 Colts.  Creating prize fund of £679.50.  Breakdown of prize fund contributions:

Seniors                 220 shooters x £3 = £660

Juniors                  13 shooters x £1.50 = £19.50

Colts                      9 shooters x £0

Birds only            17 shooters x £0

What we paid out = £790 cash prizes plus the freebie entries.  Breakdown:

£100 1st in class = £400

£60 2nd in class = £240

£40 1st in vets and ladies = £80

£20 3rd in vets (2nd in vets = free entry worth more than 3rd prize)

£30 1st in Juniors

£20 1st in colts

There has been mention that the all sporting has a larger prize fund this is because if there is a good entry at a shoot then the prize fund at the following shoot is enhanced to reflect this. This in no way deters from the prize fund on the previous shoot. I have attached a copy of the calculator in relation to this

I hope this clears up some of your questions.

Happy shooting

Bob
