Who's going to the 1st ESK England selection shoot at Doveridge in couple of weeks time, just waiting for the squads to be announced

from the CPSA sometime this week.  :nyam:

I suspect the shooter numbers will be down from last year as I know a few who are not going already.  :fie:

I am gonna give it a go; although under no illusions of placing with my 4 scores averaging 93! .

(null)

Trouble with a lot of shooters and the selection shoots ,many will not go because they say they will not make the team ,this in my opinion is not the right way to look at it ,you should disregard the title 'selection shoot ' and shoot it the same as any other reg.shoot because if you think about it most shoots you go to the average shooter will not win (maybe a class win ) .But the good thing about shooting Sel. shoots is it give you a chance to meet up with shooting friends from far and wide also normally the best in the England will be there and also it gives you the experience and the pressure (especially if your shooting well )and the format of shooting Home Internationals (i,e one round then off ,then perhaps 1-2 hour wait then back on ) plus as always the otters !!

Sadly, England selection shoots are dwindling year on year. It's not helped by the CPSA organising events overseas (DTL, not skeet).

Many people just don't time have the money or, it has to be said, the desire to take their shooting to this level nowadays.

Must say it seems a funny set up, apply with your best scores and the top 120 are invited, fair enough trap and skeet is squadded and only so many can shoot in 1 day. I have shot 3 or 4 selection shoots in sporting, not a hope in hell of making the team but its great to shoot the same shoots as the legends. gives you something to aspire to and the feeling you get if you actually go on after and beat one of them on a certain stand is great :)

I have gone to Ireland twice with my son representing England ,the CPSA give you an allowance of £300 (oversees ) or £160 if you shoot in G.B  obviously it costs more than this even if your a single person (normally 2-3 days away ) but thats what the allowance is .

You're right, but that doesn't even get close to the cost of the event. £300 doesn't cover the cost of competing in this country, never mind overseas. I have been lucky to shoot at some big events in this country and elsewhere and the CPSA contribution covers expenses, that's all.

The European and World DTL in Wales last year cost close to £1000 alone.

A grand... Where was the cost? Surely entry was only c£40-80 per day? Accom?

5 days competition at £60 per day, 5 nights hotel accomodation at £70 per night , 5 days food and other refreshments at £30 per day. Fuel getting to, from and around the venue at £50. 750 cartridges for practice and competition at £100.

That's just the planned expenses. There's probably even more if I bothered to look.

But how many target's were you shooting as part of the England team?

crikey.

Like most shooters if you sat down and actually added up the total cost /expense of shooting (especially when theres two of you ) even without the cost of hotels/ b&b's ,occasional flights  ,i think you'll find most of us are living in denial (no not a river in Africa) .......I had to sit down once with the other half and explain how come i was spending some weekends, in excess of £100 to go shooting ,once she realised it was for two she seem to except it a bit better !!

Well I have just done a quick calculation on my expenses as follows:

Petrol to & From Doveridge £60

Shoot at least 100 practice on Friday - shells + Targets say £50

Shoot 1st 100 on Saturday + shells & Entry Fees  £65 cost maybe slightly out

Shoot 2nd 100 on Sunday + shells & Entry Fees  £65    ""       ""         ""        ""

Cost of Hotel for 2 nights £130

Evening meals on Friday & Saturday night  say £40

I may have a couple of drinks but no more as I'm not really a drinker say £8

Some food and drink during both days shoot say another £10

All this £428 and you have the same similar thing for the second selection shoot at Nottingham in June, slightly less Petrol..  :fie:

Even if we were very conservative and took off the £28 it's still £400 twice a total of £800 to compete to get in the team !!!  :fie:

Just checking nobody's looking over my shoulder !! That makes it probably £1400 for myself and Lou......... Ohhhhhh ! + alchohol ..mmmmm !

£8 drinks bill for the weekend is just not feasible, add a zero to the end and we may well be in the ballpark  :drinks:
