For some reason my chokes have seized solid, the gun is kept clean and the chokes were greased, in fact I will post the name of the choke grease as it's obviously not fit for purpose?

Anyone got any ideas or is a trip to the gun smith, it's a CG Maxum with extended chokes?

Stand barrels in diesel for a few day, just ends.

Apologies if these are obvious, but have you tried a Teague style friction fit choke key plus a bit of elbow grease?

Perhaps ps a liberal spray with something like Napier Gun Oil where the chokes go in, leave it work its way down and try again?

Alternatively maybe heat heat the barrel ends up with a hair drier and try to free them up then?

Good luck with it.

Stand the barrels muzzle down in a container with some diesel oil in. Leave for 24 hours and try the choke key again. If that fails take it to a Gunsmith. The up side is that diesel has come down and is now cheaper than petrol. Try using the Lucas red gun oil off the bay, both their grease and oil is superb stuff, I would not use anything else.

Try putting the gun barrel down in 3 inches of diesel for 24hrs, this should release the grime around the chokes, if not it looks like a trip to to gunsmith, probably will have to be warmed up,

(not recommended to try at home)

Have the chokes got grooves on the side?

I think the older guns came with a friction type key, the new guns come with a claw type key, similar to the Beretta optima choke key. If they have grooves in it maybe worth giving Anglo Italian a ring and see if they can get you one of the new style choke keys.

In fact I see your from Solihull, pop round and see them.

My friend could not get his CG chokes out with the standard friction key that came with the CG, I also had an issue with the same key on my CG. I used my teauge friction key to remove his chokes and mine no problem.

The standard CG friction key is no good if the chokes are tight where as an actual Teauge key gives greater purchase and gets the chokes out.

Its worth a try as it worked on both our guns where the CG supplied key didn't.

After you get them out it may be worth experimenting with just tightening them with the fingers.  With the Perazzi factory chokes I just put them in that way and they require a wrench to get them out.  Not a giant lean-on kinda wrench but fingers won't do it alone.  I've tried a number of different grease and oil things and they all work just fine, but I don't leave the tubes in for weeks at a time either.

just a thot

I was at the gunsmiths the other week and a guy came in with a semi auto with a seized choke which was badly gouged round the outside I think he had had a Stillson pipe wrench on it and still could not move it   :)   the gunsmith said it would need a heat treatment of some sort ?

Thanks guys, tried a Teague key at my local gun shop today, no good.

Im going to CG Tom in Solihull so will keep you posted on the outcome, the guy in the gun shop said if the gun smith heats the barrels it could taint the blue?

May have to opt for the deisel option before that happens!

Could try to get the choke end of the barrel into an ultrasonic cleaner filled with diesel.

the dissimilar metals may have rusted together!

To be honest a good gunsmith would not do anything to your gun that would harm the gun.

Got to CG no one there?

Going for the deisel option.

I like the rubber wrench idea but I don't think it will fit between the two chokes?

This choke grease; it wasn't called Loctite was it? Which chokes are stuck in? Could be a step forward in your shooting to leave them there.

(Sorry, not got my helpful head on..) ?

If I thought I could get away with leaving them I would, IC and LM is all I need!

Birchwood Casey choke lube, never had a problem before first application seized?
