I've read in several places that the majority of women are left-eye dominant. I can't find any evidence for this statement at all. Does anyone have any idea as to the source of this fact? It seems like one of those things that has been published on the Internet and everyone copies verbatim.

This does not seem to be the case with the ladies I have been shooting with!

It is suggested, that many women are left eye dominant and many younger girls and boys are also left eye dominant.  This is true of my wife, my three daughters of 16 to 10 years old and my 8 year old son.  Obviously this may change.

I am R/H and Right Eye dominant.

Eye dominance isn't the problem, cross dominance is the problem :)

"Eye" have known many dominant women .......................... did you "see" what "eye" did there :)

Terrible I know :)

Elizabeth.....written by men  and quite a few are insistent about it. However I have not seen it myself in the competition world over donkeys years

None of my shooting friends 'female' are either cross eye of wrong eye dom. I never believe it personally.

However no doubt loads will have an opinion on this.....and I bet they are all men.

So excuse me now if I check out of this thread.

If there is anything you want to know ......you have my email.

By the way ....glad M W contacted you. Hope you get to take your husband to him as well as he is more local .

Nic this is the wrong forum for feminist ranting.

That I think is a very profound true statement becasue it covers both permanent and temporary/fleeting cross dominance!
Got to be a bit careful here Rob. Eye dominance is not necessarily permanent, but cross dominance is never fleeting or temporary even though can seem to be. The whole subject is far too complex to be adequately addressed in a forum environment because it requires an attention span of more than 2 minutes.

Depends how you look at it..

Counts me out then as my attention span is more like 1 minute :)

Sorry Westy and Liz.

It seems that by giving factual information as a woman shooter of many many years about myself and other women i shoot with ....from several countries......and their 'perfectly Normal eyes'....that am now a feminist.

Yawn....!

Love it........obviously I must be wrong......

And I am sure that you are all quite right.

You'll have an opinion on the gold standard next!

It's not the veracity of what you say that draws the comment sweetie, it's the way you go about saying it. The war between the sexes ended 20 years ago, get over it.

Blah blah blah

I myself have never been able to find out what feminism is; I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat*. Oh! The fun we're going to have when I start  a thread on shooting gun down for the large-breasted woman.

Eye dominance isn't the problem, cross dominance is the problem :)
Not my problem. I'm solidly right eye dominant and right handed to boot. My problem is that this statistic is bandied around a lot and no one ever says where they got it from. The plural of anecdote is not data. People I speak to IRL say they have not come across this but it's the at the top of the search results for information for women on buying a gun.

*Quotation from Rebecca West. Original quote ends "or a prostitute".

Well said Liz

Thank you.

Being a new shooter they will not chew you

There is a god!!

And she is all powerful

Well Liz I didn't mention feminism, you and Nic did. The word I used was feminist which, even amongst women, generally refers to a woman who, when not labouring under the mistaken belief that her self esteem is enhanced by constantly patronising or demeaning men, is attempting to out do men.

Another word for the same thing is insecurity.
