Used Gov.uk as as best an official source as I could find.

Then I wondered about worldwide total gun ownership and found this, albeit from 2017/8 - https://www.smallarmssurvey.org/database/global-firearms-holdings

For some reason the UK is not listed as UK.

Then I wondered which shotgun is the best selling of all time. Without looking could you guess?

The April 2023 to March 2024 figures were published in June.

Doesn't exactly paint a rosy picture. Over the year there was:

• 1% decrease in shotgun certificates (lowest number on issue since records began)
• 6% of shotgun grants refused (highest since records began)
• 34% increase in shotgun certificates being revoked (highest since records began)

Firearms certificates similar picture, though a 0.2% increase in certificate numbers, 6% grants refused and 21% increase in revoked certificates.
