Just a question guys or people in the know how hard is it to get one having already got a shotgun licence

You NEED permission to shoot land that will be passed as suitibal for caliber.

Tonky,

Completely different, you have a right to possess a shotgun unless the Police can provide good reason that you shouldn't.

For an FAC you need to provide good reason for every calibre you wish to possess, you also need to have slots for moderators etc. and also have limits applied on the number and types of ammunition you can buyhold. You would need to provide details of the land where you have permission to shoot and also what quarry you are permitted to shoot. The Police will then evaluate the land and deem what calibre it's safe for, if approved then your FAC will be restricted to the calibre approved on that ground. You will likely be on a closed FAC for 3-5 years depending on the force in question.

If you just want to shoot targets join a rifle club.

Jon.

It's a lot more strict to get an fac than a sgc.

Lots more boxes you have to tick.

If you haven't got any land on which the owner will give you their permission to shoot on then it's going to be extremely hard to obtain an fac.

Get land permission first then apply for it.

The information from the lads above is all good.

First you need to decide why you want a rifle. i.e. target, vermin control, deerstalking etc

Target - You will need to join a club, and you will be limited to shooting at a club.

Vermin Control - You will need to have written permission for vermin control on ground that is suitable for the caliber of rifle that you want.

Deerstalking - Ideally you will want to have written permission for deerstalking on ground that holds deer. It is possible to have a deer caliber rifle without have permission, if you book paid days stalking, you would need to have receipts and letters from the stalker/estate. Also, it is likely that you will be pushed to get your DSC1 (Deer Stalking Cert level 1) before being granted a deer caliber from scratch.

It's all about proving 'good reason', if you can prove 'good reason' then you shouldn't have any problems.

Another thing that is becoming more common is to make new FAC holders have a mentor for a period of time, if you have this lined up

before you apply it may also help your case.
