I don't see the issue here. If both people who have access to the cabinet have the guns on their certificate then they can both have keys to the box surely? It would be different if one had FAC weapons and the other did not, defo a no no there!
so what is the point of guns being logged onto a persons certificate if anyone in effect can take it out and use it that is going back some twenty or so years when no shotguns were registered to the owner surely that was part of the change in licensing back then.

I am always prepared to gain more knowledge and I am in no way saying you are wrong.however could you answer me this scenario you friends have full access to your guns as you have to theirs now you obviously trust them very much but as we can never know others fully if one of them took one of your guns without your knowledge and commited a crime how would you stand as security is your responsibility I have many friends but how many times have we heard that the person next door was so quiedt and kept himself to himself you would never have thought he or she was a murderer or rapist you are putting a lot of trust into others which I would not do.
1. I am married to him.

2. He is a criminal barrister and firearms specialist.

Does that help.?

Really we could invent all sorts of 'situations' to poke holes in the Law.....we could also believe any interpretation that Flo's say for their force......but .....at the end of the day ....the law is the Law. You are not doing anything wrong by refusing silly illegal interpretations of it.

First know your rights...and second never be afraid to 'politely' point out when errors in interpretation are to a Flo. Most know their job and do it pleasantly and well....but we must resist extra conditions being put on our ownership...that simply are made up.....and not 'LAW'.

Hope that helps.

I think you are making a problem where there is none. I hope you dont mind me saying.

Any licence holder should know the correct accepted behaviour in order to be a licence holder...and what you described just would not happen in reality. If it did...they would be losing their ticket very quickly.

Hope this helps.

being married to a barrister is no guarantee does the name mark saunders ring any bells.it can and does happen so my guns will stay locked with me being the only person having access to them

I am an "expert" on nothing, and that's a fact. Taking that as a given, Nic's on the money - simple as.

Phil*

I for one would take Nics advice on things of these matters as a given, taking into account her credentials.

I dont doubt she knows the wording of the law but if the Flo said he wants something a certain way why argue and if it goes beyond the required safe keeping requirements then that has got to be a good thing shooting has a bad enough reputation with Joe public without being seen to be argumentative that's all I was saying.a nice quiet peaceful life .

I agree however I think the concensus on these matters not only form Nic is that the FLO should stick to the rules and not ask for stuff that is not required in law otherwise such things will become the norm and be accepted as such effectively a new requirement / legislation brought in un-challenged through the back door so to speak.

Good for you...enjoy....there are all levels of people in any business....I will not waste your time with any more helpful info...some people just will not be advised....and that of course is their choice.

Thanks for the help nic. It is regarding a shotgun and we will be putting it down as a shared gun thanks again

To back up Bostonmick, my brother kept a 7000 in my dads cabinet when he lived at home, and Lincolnshire police insisted it was on both they're certificates. So its not incommon for Lincs to demand this, but I'm afraid us carrot crunchers like an easy life, so we get on with it and get shooting to keep the peace. I know people that have gone against the flo's in Lincolshire and it has never ended well.

When i applied for my cert, we disscussed what  to do should my wife wish to apply for her own cert, and what to do about  guns / cabinets.

The reply given to me was

1) My wife has her own cabinet  and gun on her cert, to which i have no access

2) My wife has no cabinet and no gun, and no access to my cabinet  but puts my gun on her cert, and idenifies as shared

3) My wife has her own gun and stores in my cabinet and has access or vice versa and the gun(s) are on both certs

If i interprited it correctly, if my wife want access to my cab, she has to have her own licence, and the gun must be on both certs.

if its not on  both certs, then access is restricted to one or both of us

Does that help or confuse?
