Well Dean - I'll be wearing my Lincolnshire Shooting Team Vest with pride on Sunday at the IC DTL at N&DGC. I'll also be wearing it at the National ABT up at Bywell & the IC ABT at N&DGC - why don't you try your hand at Trap shooting too you could join us.

I only returned to Clay Shooting this year following a 25 year sabbatical, but I'm up for it, enthusiastic & try to encourage anyone who shows an interest to have a go. Personally I don't feel I have the drive & commitment to be a committee member - perhaps you should try it as you seem to have a lot of free time instead of sniping on here & Facebook.

I really hope more & more county shooters to come along to the "Championships". I didn't make the County Sporting shoot this year due to been elsewhere but I would like to of had a go. As you've pointed out above Sporting does have a higher following than any other discipline, but that's not surprising really as it emulates live shooting. Also we don't have any Trap layouts in Linc's (that I'm aware of) but the guys & gals at N&DGC + those up at Beverly make us very welcome.

Well I'll be giving it my best at Barrow Heath on 5th Oct shooting with Amber my daughter and Calamity for Greater London Ladies. Suppress your desire to laugh out loud please :)

There was an I/C shoot at B.H. last Sunday which seemed to be well attended, I went but had to abandon it as I ran out of time - the waiting seemed to get longer in the afternoon than the morning.

There are lots of people who just want to shoot for fun without the pressure of competition or they have the feeling that they are not good enough and will be embarrassed by their effort so fail to enter.  This is the same problem that we have in target shooting.

People need to be chivied and cajoled by those who go and enjoy it to enter.  Try and treat it like any other shoot with your mates and you might find that you enjoy it and surprise yourself!

I wonder how Deerhunter would feel if it transpired that the Committee are all ISSF shooters and decide to junk the rest of the shoots and he lost out!

Well done to the county for continuing to offer all disciplines for competition.
First of all sir if you wish to comment please address me by the correct name !

this has nothing to do with ISSF shooters this is the CPSA competitions my question was should the main CPSA NOT HELP MORE IN THESE SITUATIONS

I told you were more a deerhunter rather than a deershooter.......it stick in the mind.....just saying

What mustn't be forgotten is that the county committee exists to represent the interests for all its members, irrespective of the discipline they shoot. As others have said, the lack of county championship support is widespread across the country and indicative of the state of shooting nowadays. More and more events have to be held outside the county, sometimes even outside the region. In Lincolnshire it's only really DTL, Skeet and Sporting that pay their way but that doesn't matter, the committee should support everyone irrespective of the chosen discipline or shooting ability.

To say only championships with 10 or more shooters should count is nonsense. Those 10 Olympic Trap shooters may be far more competitive than 100 Sporting shooters. The numbers don't matter too much, it's the quality of the event that counts.

Oh, and Dean, I think you're getting confused over English and Olympic Skeet. There were plenty of Lincolnshire shooters at the English Skeet championship.
Jan what a load of bollocks no event is a quality event with less than 10 shooters it's like a few mates shooting practice .You are too young to remember when county shoots had 25 squads in DTL run by Roger Groves at Nottingham and were finished by 2:30 in the afternoon mind you the first squad was out at 8:30

Lincolnshire single barrel would have 80 shooters but now what is there to shoot for if you are A,B,or C class not even a badge if it's a championship it needs prizes in all classes by adding 3 other counties that just robs each class of prize money .

Who wants to shoot for nothing

Its simple, the majority of shooters want quick gratification and variety, therefore most non sporting disciplines fall flat to providing that, who wants to spend 5 hours shooting DTL?

County championships are very close to disappearing, the kudos of shooting for the County has gone and so has the support of the CPSA at County level, instead HQ say its down to the County comittees, which is a thankless task for the very few people who give up their time to run them.

Sorry I have to say this but no event with so little entrants can be classed as a championship or quality event

Er......not always true..... Consider the following scenario...

County X has 6 new members who have all moved into the area....until then they only had 4 shooters at their sporting Championships a Mr Joe Blogs, Mrs Mincham, Little Johhny, and Old farting Fred....

This year though the 6 new members of the County X (and all wanting to shoot the County Championship) are a Mr Edward Solomon,

two MBE's and always evenly matched Richard and George.....and a Lord (Percy I think....and known to be a bit of a crack shot)....plus a 26 times lady world champion called Chezzer and a Spanish girl who shoots a bit( but who is now in UK for work) called Lappara.

Old farting Fred has snuffed it, Little Johnny has a new bird and has gone boating, Mrs Mitcham is giving the Vicar one that day (already pre-booked and cannot be cancelled) but Joe Blogs is still on for the challenge....after winning the trophy 20 years in a row...and ain't anyone taking it off him....he is just saying.....'no matter who these 'newcomers are!!'

You could sell tickets for that one.....just saying....

As all women know .....size is not everything.....quality is

Is there any correlation between the impact of the recession since 2008 and the declining numbers?

Is it possible that numbers will improve again as the economy and peoples finances and confidence improves?

Here's hoping anyway!

+1

I would say the recession is playing a major part in the decline in numbers.

Shot sporting for the county for the first time at the beginning of the year. Travelled 2hrs to get to the ground to shoot boring watered down targets. I understand there had to be something for everyone but I'd like a bit of a challenge at least, and I'm no Digweed. Then there was the poorly organised presentation that started so late (hours after the shoot had finished) that most shooters had given up and gone home before it had even begun. I had really looked forward to the shoot and was proud to represent my county but it was a big let down. Thinking of not bothering next year, if there's a registered on I'll probably be trying my luck there instead. Could/should have been so much better. Maybe that's why people are not bothering?.
