High 5

Fuz,

Having discovered skeet it will not be long before you find skeet doubles, another flavour of a great game. When you do you will appreciate why we shoot those long incomers such as L3 or H5 on our side of the field. It must be said that bringing it into you can create problems but if your technique is basically sound and you can keep your eye on the target there are benefits to bringing the target across to your side of the centre stake. Next time we meet I'll talk you through it if you remind me. Will be at Nottingham next Sunday. Above all else shoot it where you are confident you will break it!

Nice to see you on here Mr F, I have been watching Todd Bender on you tube quite extensively and it seems the side of the field is very important and that is something I have been working on (check out the latest blog post from Bisley). I am looking to get myself a skeeting lesson in the near future and your name keeps cropping up as the person to speak to. Unfortunately I am shooting th E/O on Saturday, but if all goes to plan I might well be back on Sunday for a shoot off or presentation... If not I will get in touch on here or FB for a lesson

I shoot high five way past the peg, because it's like a dinner plate there. It's just down to personal preference. I don't like to rush any of them needlessly.

Speaking of high 5. High fiving after a straight boils my piss and makes me cringe. Fist bumps will be punishable by summary execution when I'm king.

Must agree with you on this its childish.you very rarely see it happen on any of the east anglian grounds anymore.we now drop our trousers and do a moony towards the club house.

For the record i actually like it - shows support and appreciation. It was great to see two top shots shooting off in the UK Open last weekend verbally encouraging each other on every pair. It was no coincidence that these two guys had the longest shoot off of the weekend on two occasions.

For me shooting in a squad is exactly that - you are for the duration of the shoot working as a unit. It is of extreme benefit to shoot with the same regular bunch of people when it comes to the fixed disciplines. There is a reason for this - everyone has their own little habits and order they prefer to shoot in and if you find a "team" of four or five that works then stick with it as it can and will help you.

I know when i shoot for my county we very much operate on the "encouraging" format during the seniors event and it has helped us put in some fantastic 5 man scores and do well in many events over my time shooting. I accept it has probably crept in from the American format of skeet but it is a fun game and to me enjoying it and encouraging your friends and competitors is all part and parcel of that.

I much prefer it to complete silence and no acknowledgement - but each to their own i guess. All i would suggest is that if you find yourself shooting with a squad that does this and its not for you - don't shoot with them again. I am not likely to do this when on a squad of strangers unless they are happy to - but then again it is VERY rare i will shoot with complete strangers as i am out to enjoy my shooting and that involves taking part with friends and "high fiving" them all the way to 100 straight!! - .. 

Oh yeah to answer the OP's question - let high 5 come into my side of the field everytime.

I agree , encouragement can only be a good thing. eg ;   2002 Home international at Auchterhouse , a new cap Welsh Junior, intimidated by the occasion and shooting with people he had only read about in magazines,  was having a really bad day. The England shooter on his squad talked and encouraged him during the next round which resulted in the junior's first ever 25 straight . That helpful England shooter was non other than Mr Johnny Walker .

High five I usually shoot just after the peg if I can.

As for 'High Fiving' ... I'm so pleased to get a straight these days, that I have now adopted 'continental air kissing ' as celebration as it intimidates the rest of the squad..!

Hello all, I only shoot skeet a couple of times a year these days - in terms of high 5 I have always favoured letting this target come towards me and eventually shooting this half way between the centre peg and the low house (Pretty much a mirror of shooting low 3). I have always adopted the maintained lead technique on this target applying similar lead to high 4. High 5 is a target that doesn't need to be rushed, I mount the gun as the target approaches the middle peg. Hope this helps -cheers Neil 

After careful consideration I'm thinking of taking skeet shooting more seriously in terms of concentrating on this discipline rather than Englsh Sporting, my objective is to achieve a place in the 2014 England team squad ~ watch this space folks
