OK guys, let's be honest, how many of us have been influenced into buying a particular make/type of gun just because our particular hero or a famous shooters uses a particular gun? It has happened to me and I freely admit it! How about you guys?

I'll put my hand up.

I once shot for a day with Steve Nutbeam's Perazzi when he was coaching at RBSS and loved it.

Subsequently I went to Litts and asked them to get one made that was the same.  However the one I ended up with was a dog and had to be sold on soon afterwards.

Now (many years later) I have another Perazzi and get on fine with it. Unsurprisingly it is very different to SN's.

Maybe now I know a bit more about what actually suits me and how I shoot........

I went K80 after a year. If nobody successful had been using them and they were cheap I'm sure I would never have had one.. Took me a while to try something else and move away.. I actually didn't have that big a fixation of a Perazzi; but was loaned one at EJC and just got on with it.

I've had a Perazzi fetish for years Will, unfortunately I just don't seem to shoot well with them, even though I always had them fitted properly. I first got one back in the 80's because a number of the top trap guys used them, I eventually came to realise that the gun is only part of the story! I first went to Miroku on the advice of one of my mentors, a guy who I looked up to and who taught me a great deal about trap shooting. I still love the feel of a Perazzi though, they are such lovely guns!!!! I reckon it's all too easy for any of us to try to buy our way to shooting better! :fie:

I had a shoot with both a Beretta and a Miroku at the NCTSC when having a lesson with my son a few years ago - both seemed to work for me.  My local dealer, The Sport & Gun shop at Heavitree, Exeter showed me a shiny new Beretta 686e and it fitted and I hit lots of clays on a trial evening with it so I bought it as it was about the price I had planned to spend - job done.

Mind you I am now intrigued by the 692 and want to try one - Perhaps my son ought to buy the 686e off me!

Robert please be VERY careful mate! I sold my 3800 to my son and it took me many years, several Perazzi's, an MK38 and a DT 10 before I got it back off him!

I saw my friend Ben Husthwaite shooting a Krieghoff on numerous occasions and when I found that they wouldn't climb out of dustbins or lakes and dry themselves, it put me off for life. At those sort of prices they ought to shoot clays without missing and drive me to shoots.

When I saw Carl Bloxham, Gary Phillips, Mick Howells , and Micky Rouse shoot Miroku's , I thought that's easy so I bought one, love them to bits, best money I have ever spent.

Interestingly all of the above have moved on to other guns, but eventually come back to Miroku, also interestingly they have all had their best results with Miroku!

Now there's a thought.

Yes I can name other top guys who have done that too.

I am ashamed to say I have never tried one! (Had a B525 though)

Yes Pete that is a thought! I have often wondered what a lot of those top guys would actually shoot if they had to buy it themselves and did not have sponsorship!

I'm easily influenced - I bought a Beretta because Chard has one.

Not Guilty! When it comes to stuff, I never run with the pack and I'm not influenced by what's trendy or being promoted by a star.

But then I'm an awkward old Git.
Well I guess you're lucky! I fear that quite a lot of us have been influenced by guys that we aspire to be like. I would also think that many of us came to our senses after a while too. Such aspirations did me no good at all. :fie:

I wouldn't be influenced at all, as most of the shooters at that level are using sponsored guns, not their own choice.

Means nothing to me at all, which is why all the "networking" and blather that you get rammed down your neck on forums is wasted on me too. I'm not listening.

The motives for all that cobblers are financial, nothing to do with endorsing quality. :codemafia:

I fear you are totally correct Chard! I also reckon it is all financial, not that you can blame the manufacturers or the shooters for that, it's part of the game I guess.

Yes, it's like when people chirp on about how Perazzis win more comps than any other gun. It's because they lob out more guns as sponsorship.

Almost willy-nilly. I expect mine will turn up shortly :hyper:

Matt,

If you were influenced by Chard, do you also like Wurther's Originals?

In the words of the shooting God from Hastings    " I will shoot anything if the money is right ."

As an addendum to being influenced into buying a gun because a 'star' shoots one, how many of you will own up to swapping and changing guns in the search for perfection, you know that you are talented it is just the gun holding you back!     ????

+1

First bought a Bettinsoli because it was cheap, changed to a Beretta cuz I didn't know any better (that's street poetry!!),

tried a Daytona, first time I shot it scored a 24 at skeet, bought it and fell in luuuuurve!  Until then, I'd never heard of Gamba!

Refuse to get taken for a ride by marketing morons, couldn't give a toot what everyone else has got.  :preved:

I have never been influenced by the fact a particular shooter was using it. However I have to say I was influenced by an old Beretta catalogue of my dad’s, I kept thumbing through it and always wanted the DT10 shown in it for some strange reason, even though my dad and I shot Brownings.

Finally bought one so I guess the marketing man earned his keep that year. Does not shoot any more clays than my 682 Gold E  but I do get more enjoyment out of owning it as I am superficial and shallow like that. :spiteful:
