Does anyone have insurance for their gun? I'm spending a bit on one so am considering it, anyone had any good or bad experiences with any companies?

Thanks

Yes, both my guns are covered. Together their replacement value is around £15.000 so it's commonsense really. I think I pay an extra £30 on the household policy to cover them at home and elsewhere.

Avoid companies like SiS unless you require specialist cover, they're very expensive. Adding to your household policy is adequate.

Exactly what is covered on home policy. ?

Only guns up to a certain single item price are automatically covered.

After that you have to declare them and their value and they are added as a specified item.

Well of course it depends on your policy....but some things are not worth taking a chance with so if you want to be safely covered.............

So are we talking theft from home or whilst shooting away, damage or not etc Spose 12k will need itemising ?

Over £2.5k needs itemising on mine and covers away from home, which is handy since I'm not likely to either loose or damage it indoors.

Read the policy carefully when I spoke to my insurance company to add my 10k gun to household policy the only cover was for theft from a locked cabinet,it didn't cover fire or flood damage be warned. I ended up changing to a more gun friendly company
Jonz

Thanks hammy yes true was a daft question on my part really not going anywhere locked at home :)

ace I'll just call my insurance company and ask them for a quote to add it to the home one. Thanks, didn't think of that

Generally for items of value that are portable like cameras etc which you regularly take away from home in which cateory I would include shotguns you need to be asking for "All Risks" cover and this would need to be specified in terms of make serial number and value if it exceeds the value specified by the policy which will vary from company to company

I'd go with that advice. Valuable, portable stuff needs to be on a quality policy.

I have used Hiscox and Oak in the past -  not cheap; but good cover.

You bet £12K will need itemising pal. Talk about the bloody North/South divide!!! Spare thought for us poor folk down in Dorset using our 22 year old Mirooks worth about ten bob! :resent:

Yeah but all your pieces of eight are buried on some far away pirate island.

Ian we can't even afford a shovel to bury the pieces of eight, let alone the cost of the ferry to the Isle of Wight. :nea:
