Found the following to be interesting statistics from issue 44

411 = number of ENG and W shooters having recorded OT scores

265 = shooters having shot more than 125 targets

102 = shooters having shot more than 600 targets

No point or conclusion just thought it was interesting.

By way of comparison

1293 = number of shooters having

recorded DTL scores

3709 = number of shooters having recorded ESP scores

And the best stat of all - over 1800 members of this forum, not a bad ratio (obviously meany forum members are not submitting registered scores)

Is that all?

I'm very surprised by the figures in all disciplines. A lot less than I thought there would be. It just shows how many "Grass roots" Shooters there are that do not shoot registered.

No wonder all you Trap Shooters know each other!  :sarcastic:

Ha, yes it does seem that we all know each other and not far off the truth :)

It is interesting just how popular ESP is though no were near as popular down here, trap is king here ! I visited a new ground the other week and was talking to some of the shooters they were asking if I shot sporting (I think because I am from the UK) I said if I was not shooting trap I would not be shooting at all.... they said exactly the same, not interested !

That's because they shoot anything that flys anyway!!

vive la difference

That's so weird really.

As Dogtyred says in the post above, they shoot virtually everything that flies so you would think that Sporting would be right up their Boulevard!

Possibly because it's "English" Sporting they are put off by the name??  :sarcastic:

No I think the French do actually have good sporting shooters but by and large trap is the discipline in France. What is very interesting is I was talking to a guy at the last day of the club season. The game season is about to begin and two shooters turn up to shoot sporting?? I asked one of the trap shooters why more were not shooting sporting surely its a good chance to practice a bit of field shooting.. he just laughed .. not any kind we do ! ?? If you think about it if you shoot boar and deer  with rifles and slugs I suppose he is right and  birdies always fly away from you so trap does for that!

Back when I first started trap shooting I could go to almost any trap layout within 100 miles or so and I knew that I would more than likely see people that I knew! It's not the same these days though, a lot of those old guys have either retired or gone to the great trap layout in the sky!!!! :resent:

True les but i don't remember ever not seeing shooters i know no matter were i have been. Tis a close community this trap lark.

Unfortunately trap shooters are in fairly short supply down here mate, there are a lot of very good all rounders, but pure trap shooters are a rare breed in Dorset as far as I can see. OK there are quite a few DTL boys, but not a huge amount though, and as for pure OT shooters in Dorset, well I would guess it's in single figures mate, even though we have one of the best OT layouts in the country! It's all a bit sad and a bit strange really. I was talking to a bloke only last night, shoots a bit of game, bit of sporting, bit of skeet, bit of DTL. I asked him if he fancied trying some OT at some point, "oh no" he said," I've seen that, it's too difficult I'd be wasting my money", so that kinda sums up what we are up against in fast trap. People run away from OT even before they try to shoot it.

16 Dorset registered shooters shot a registered OT event in the last issue and 12 of those shot 100 targets only... so yes you are in a minority down there!!

And strangely none of them are called Hammond???

OT comps are normally on a Sunday, in the past 20 years or so I have only shot once on a Sunday! I usually shoot weekdays or Saturdays, until this year I hadn't really fired a gun in six or seven years! I have only shot one registered this year, but I intend to get my arse in gear next year mate! To be honest I shot so badly at that shoot I'm glad my score isn't there, but it should be! But at least I came third in the Dorset team! I just didn't shoot as bad as most of the others, its that simple mate. It was only Rob and Ian mulliner that got better scores in the team, not surprising as Ian shoots OT for England and I think Rob is a past Dorset champ!!! So there it is mate! If you want a laugh I can send you the score sheet?not a pretty sight for team Dorset!!!

Here you go mate, this was one was my BEST round too!!! Not a good day for me or Garry Foster (member on here.... Garry 2749) You will see the names Pullen and Warner on the board, both of those guys were wearing GBR vests and even they struggled. Abbet Burton ended up the overall winner, she even beat Ed Ling!!!

Your score is on the CPSA website but not in the Ranking section as that only goes up to issue 44 and your score was quite recent.

I must admit I had you down as a regular OT comp shooter. Wrong as usual!

Nowt wrong with that score. Check out the recent Selection shoot scores at SC and you'll find lots a darn site lower!

As I said mate, Sundays have been difficult for me for many years, but not shooting registered didn't bother me too much, many of the guys I used to shoot with shot only weekdays and Saturdays too. I have been lucky to be able to shoot most week days though if I chose to, been like that for a long time now. Mostly when I used to shoot up at Garlands,East Yorkshire,Cheddar, Bisley, A1, it was usually either in the week or on a Saturday. Over the years I did get to shoot in practice with some well known trappies, I even beat some of them now and again. I did quite a few ABT/DTL club comps many years ago and I shot in the Ray Ward Trap Club League at Bisley, because those things were always on a Saturdays! There also used to be a few ABT scratch matches going on here and there that I used to shoot, basically it was a form of gambling I suppose, some of the clubs knew what was going on, but some were not aware at all. It was possible to win a good few quid on occaisions (or lose it!!), a lot of Greeks and Italians were involved. Anyway my Sundays are getting more free these days, so next year I intend to shoot some more registered comps.

Look forward to you joining us on the trap circuit mate.

That score was not that bad on the day. Remember scores are only ever comparable to others on the day.
