Just after the Eley 'explosion' many years ago, it became quite difficult to obtain cartridges. Eley themselves were sending the components to France to have cartridges loaded for them. Those cartridges were lethal, I know of 1 Guy that lost most of his left hand when his Charles Lancaster blew up. However the components were readily available from most gun shops and at a very reasonable price, albeit mainly distributed by Eley. Once they cottoned on to the increased sales of loading materials, Eley did what they do best, they hiked up the prices of the components. Around the same time we began to see more imported cartridges on sale, Gyttorp, Rottweil, Sellior and Bellot and of course Baikal. These were sold at such an affordable price that reloading, other than for large (or small) bores, became uneconomical. Using a Redding machine, I would de-cap and re-cap 100 cases at a time, then just load up that 100, all with the same load. Any that 'failed' were tossed into a bucket to be 'unpicked' later.
