I recon its an early 3800 because of the black on the lumps, the rib is correct for either trap or sporting fixed trigger doesnt mean anything,

Is this the one that was advertised in Newmarket ? If so I believe the chokes were 3/8 & 5/8 which would indicate it gas been taken out from its original trap configuration , it does look like an early 3800 but the lack of letters in the serial number indicates it's probably earlier, it does look in great condition but may well be older than you think, I have a 1969 winchester that looks less than a year old as it spent all of its life in a cabinet. I thought about this gun (if it is the Newmarket one) but decided against it as wanted more choke

Nice gun

It will have ALL the choke that you will ever need to shoot sporting or fitasc ! Do NOT screw around with them,  go and win some money with it, good luck.

Didn't the early 3800 have the long trigger guard tang, the same as the 800 it superceded. I thought the short tang was later, prior to the introduction of the MK38.

I've just bought a 1982 3800 Trap gun with the long guard and original choking, 13mm rib, it's a nice gun to shoot, very pale wood though and it needs a decent pad fitting as the original one is very hard.
