Miroku stock

I picked up two Miroku guns about a year ago, one being a 26'' 800 skeet which is a fun little gun to use and the second is a 32'' MK38 Trap gun and this is the one that I am giving thoughts to as the previous owner for some reason has removed ALL the chequering from both the pistol grip and forend................ ??????

The MK38 is not used at all but I would like to have shoot some DTL with it this summer but what to do regarding the stock. It has an adjustable comb with some crappy leather or similar on the comb but the feel of the grip is awful as the removal of the chequering has made the grip too small and without the grip it is lacking the control even with gloves on.
I know I could buy a new stock but I think that is going to be pretty expensive, I have even thought of adding extra wood to the palm side of the grip, shaping it and stipple for the grip but really not sure what to do and I am not a carpenter.
A point worth bringing up here is that buying the gun cheap as a project is that I don't want to spend much money on it as it is getting on in years and not been looked after so I may not keep it. Any ideas would be of interest.

You can get a stick on palm swell from Kick- eez. I have one on a Browning ultra XS and it works quite well.

Or.......you could build up the grip in layers, as I have done with a repair to a broken Franchi forend. I used a dark coloured plastic wood/filler, applying it in layers to build back the 'missing' piece of wood. I can pm you the exact make etc., tomorrow, if you want it ?

This is NOT the final finish, the job is ongoing. I bought the gun as scrap, but the condition of rest of the gun, with an adjustable comb, merited my restoring it.

My best bet would be to look for a used MK38 trap stock: These must be about as the MK38 has been around for ages and I've read plenty about people using them as sporting guns after swapping out the trap stock. I'd look on guntrader, or ring the usual suspects in used guns.

Thank you Keith, that is spot on and well worth a try. Just thinking about using this method, it may be possible to apply the filler then hold the grip as if I were actually about to shoot in order to get a 'mold' of my hand to offer a better shape to fit me. That is worth trying on an old air rifle stock that I have in the garage. Hmmm food for thought.
