Firstly, may I introduce myself. I've been doing plenty of reading here and gathered some great info so thank you all for sharing your knowledge.

Now, I am in the nice position of purchasing a dedicated clay gun, mostly for Sporting layouts, and have narrowed it down to a DT11 or Perazzi MXS. I have shot a DT11 and very much enjoyed it, along with an MX12 but never used an MXS.

I'm really only interested in these two so any opinions from owners of either would be very welcome.

Peter

In clay terms the MXS is a cheap Perazzi, the DT11 is an expensive Beretta, the former started a few decades ago and have won more championships than anyone else because they place more of their guns in winners hands, the latter is the oldest firm in the world so tends not to major on marketing.

Given that they're the same price it's a no brainer, in my opinion the DT11 is the better pick of those two, it's prolly the better pick of almost any.

I'm a great believer that a gun needs to be familiar to you. A shooter will get used to whatever gun they have and shoot it well in time. Almost every story about difficulty with a gun comes from somebody who has changed and cannot get used to the different one, as much as they would like to. And that's why I have a lovely 32" adj comb DT11 for sale! ? 7 years of shooting an MX12 programmed my head permanently.

So if you are fairly new to it, get the one that fits about right and crack on. They all work.

As Hammy says, the MXS might be great, as good as any Perazzi in reality, but there will always be the feeling that you have bought less than Perazzi can offer. Did I mention I have a DT11 for sale? ??

For the price of a New MXS I'd go for a second hand MX12 or MX8. If its a new gun your really after I'd go for the DT11.

But and its a big but. As will said go for the one that fits the best.

I have to wonder about the term "cheap Perazzi".  They're all made the same place, all the pieces come off the same production lines, and the MXS has some minor cosmetic differences.  The gun is the same as any other Perazzi and is no less than a designed for and dedicated to competition gun.  I have no idea what the sales figures are like but I see near no used ones here.  DT's ,,,,,,,,,,,,on the other hand ...............

DT 11's are big, numb, slow handling guns which are expensive to buy new. There are used bargains to be had if you insist on having one so have a look about. A used MX12 or MX8 for less than four grand would be a good buy - if you can find one which has the dimensions to suit you. In my opinion.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

Just to add another gun into the mix I have been offered a new MX8 at an amazing price which (without shooting it) matches my fit measurements. That's turned my head from the DT11.

Thoughts...?

Good thinking!  Keep him off balance and at the same time have him thinking what a great dad you are.

More to you than meets the eye for certain. hahaha

tis called scuppering the opposition Charlie and his own flesh and blood too. Its cos he is from some weird never never land in the heart of England. Me thinks its comparable to your "okeys"

That would be "Okies" and I would hope not in the heart of England.  And who better to know the proper path to destruction than one's own blood, eh?  At least Greg is kind enough to soften the blow with a Perazzi hahaha  We should all pity poor Harry having to cope with that

Rosso, it is always so disappointing to see how simple envy can so consume you.  Frightfully ill becoming, I must say, what?

If you decide to go the DT11 route and new speak to Matthew Morgan at Premier Guns. They arrange several trips a year to the Beretta factory in Brescia and for an extra 6% on the gun price you get your stock tailor made and can pick the wood. For just over £300 extra on a £5.5k gun it seems a no brainer to me.

I didn't know that, makes a lot of sense.
