Les - For those of us who haven't been around that long can you give us a quick rundown of exactly how it has altered? What are the differences between ABT of 20 years ago and ABT today?
Cheers
Basically it's pretty much as Ian (ips) says above! Back in the 80's/90's there were some fairly big angles to shoot, we also had some daisey cutters which could really give a newbie a hell of a shock, especially the straight one on peg 3, which could escape god knows how many yards whilst hidden under your barrels, so a good many experinced guys used a low hold and some held off left or right which worked for some but not for me. It seems however that the high birds are now MUCH higher, the daisey cutters seem higher, the angles are not as wide BUT, the speed seems to be more like that of OT. Ball trap was never an easy game, but it was shootable by even relatively inexperienced trap shooters, todays ABT seems more like OT, however the high bird is more like a springing teal with a rocket up its back side. OK the really extreme angles seem to be less extreme, but the speed and heights seem to have been subject to a huge increase, unless I, along with a great many others, have imagined it. As far as I'm aware, DTL has not changed in all the years that I've been shooting, it doesn't need to be changed either, I simply cannot understand why fast trap seems to be almost continually under change of some sort. Back in the 80's most trap shooters used 32grm loads, then it became 28grm, but a lot of us did not feel much reduction in recoil, if we felt any at all.
If as Ian (ips) heard, it is to encourage grounds to instal more ABT layouts, well it seems not to be working, I certainly have not heard of any new ABT layouts down this way and it would appear that the same goes for the North too.
