New Gun Syndrome, also know as Gun Acquisition Syndrome (GAS), is a difficult one to deny.  Fortunately for me none of the new guns inspire it.  If I thot I could get something that was demonstrably better than what is here now I might be tempted but TTTT I see no reason to get teh hots for anything.

I have also seen a good few who have given up the unequal struggle with a Krieghoff in various models , K80 or Parcour and gone back to their old gun or a new gun of their ownership. That being said I did persevere with my K80 , I did get it sorted and I do now like it , but not as much as a tried and trusted Miroku MK38 😊.
Good to know that perseverance can overcome rational thot.  And even if you are able to shoot it reasonably well how can you bear to look at it?  Life is too short to be burdened with a gun that ugly.  Oh, BTW, that would be UGLY .   :poke:

I went on holiday to italy and of course since I was at Garda took my gun to Perazzi at Brescia to get them to take a look... it is 30 years old so it may have needed some sort of service. Fabrizio said they would give it the once over. Two hours later after lunch I returned to collect and pay, fearing a huge bill. Fabrizio met me smiled and said " this gun is now perfect" they replaced the "H" block.... that was all after thirty one years use! Then he said "come back in another thirty years it might need something done" to which I replied "I will be 93 then but I will if I can" cost of work €300 . Now I ask why would anybody want another gun?... although I do have an unused Browning.....................

Salopian, as you know I shoot a DT10, which I love to shoot, and it will probably outlast and certainly out perform me.

However, as a lover of shiny things, there are several guns that have caught my eye.....

1. Perazzi 2020 black is pure gun porn! Never seen one in real life; am likely to need a lie down if I do.

2. Beretta DT11 EELL Black with oodles of carbon fibre is in the same catagory.

3. More down to earth.... I really like the whole Benelli 828 sporter look.

For new shooters I have been properly impressed with 2 ATA sporters that 2 mates have bought, and really hope that the sub £1000 start up prices (for all the kit) will encourage many more to try out the sport.

Having turned up at my first ever comp. a 50 bird skeet comp.  with some 180 + entries and managing to finish 9th.,  using an AyA No.2 S x S,  coupled with 32 gram Winchester AA's, I have never really given a Monkey's as to what others thought of my gun or my performance with it. After all,  there were some 171 people who wished they had shot as well  !    😋

I do not believe that the gun makes a jot of difference,  as long as the user has confidence in it and themselves  !

I bought the 525 sl 32” just before Christmas. I like the gun a lot, it’s handles well and fits well too. Problem is I can’t bloody shoot it 😂 I’ve gone from scoring around late 30’s early 40’s on average to a 25 today! I know I need to be patient with it because I’ve previously only ever shot a 30”, so it’s the barrel length as well as I new gun I need to get used to - but it is still frustrating.

Is it normal to have this much of a drop of while I get used to it?

I assume you are talking scores from 50, not 100?  Even so, if the targets haven’t become harder (or are different to those you are used to) then no, it’s not right to drop this far. If I were coaching you I would look at all the basics and see where the issue is.

Before xmas I hit a 48, then back to two 58's which was still a under what I consider my normal... saturday I hit a 72. Albeit it was mainly a new layout at my local shoot but same gun, different day. Worth having a go a few more times and seeing if it's a standard or a one off before you start worrying??

Thanks for the reply. I’ve shot a few times and on average I’m about 10 clays down on what I can shoot with my other gun. I’ve tried a few different grounds and I’m comparing it to previous scores on the same targets out of 50. Hopefully Sunday was a blip and the scores will creep back up! It’s a bloody frustrating sport 😩

I won't mention how ridiculous 32" barrels are for games like sporty or fast targets.

Unless you happen to have the same general physiognomy as that George guy that caused to fad to fire off.

Best of luck coming to terms with a gun that doesn't seem to work for you

When the 32" fad started I benefited mightily with the availability of those worthless guns with barrels too short to use.  Not enough fools for the 34" fad to have much effect other than enriching the pre-owned market with 34" barreled guns   Fortunately for me I'm pretty much out a the market these days but fantastic buys on 72cm and 75cm barreled guns still abound.  Funny old world ain't it? :lolu:

I’m sticking with it for a good while yet and then back to old faithful if things don’t get better. 🤞🏻

Yes I’m talking out of 50, I should have mentioned that. I’ve got a lesson later this month so I’m hoping to get to the bottom of it. It might be that I’ve not got the gun set up correctly for me. Basics are all good but I do have a tendency to slow the gun towards the end of the shot.

I have a 32" DT10 sporting which I love but I would like a DT11 with the Beretta/TSK adjustable stock to have as a dedicated trap gun............................................well that is not likely to happen unless either I sell my body parts or wait for that elusive lotto win but I will have died before that happens.  😁 😂

So the bad news is vintage body parts are not in demand.  I mean, can you imagine the bidding for ..........  well that's an image I don't want to put out there :stop:

As for the Beretta/TSK thing the only financing method I've ever had is re-directing resources.

It just depends on how much you want something   :console:

Bought myself a Beretta DT11L DTL / Trap before Xmas ( had to sell most of the of the other rifles that were residing in the gun safe to be able to afford it 😥) . Have taken it out to the club twice and have shot a 96 and a 95 , which is a couple of targets less than my average ( 98 ) so all in all very happy with the new purchase

Well, I too have a 'new gun' for 2020  !   I was in the local gun shop at the back end of last year and spotted an old Beretta 301 on the shelf. It was to be sold for spares as it was not in working order. A bit of a haggle and I paid the princely sum of £100 for it. It was entered on my Certificate as 'parts only'.  My thinking behind this impulsive purchase, was, I have a mint condition Beretta 303 semi auto which I took pigeon shooting last February. Not wanting the gun to get damaged, I had it covered in neoprene sleeves (stock and barrel) and cammo tape from backside to breakfast, in an attempt to protect it.  Well the defence system worked, but to such a degree it had altered the fit of the gun dramatically and my shooting suffered. So, my 'new gun' has battered woodwork which has been repaired in several places, scratched action and barrel and marks at the muzzle showing that someone had used a blowtorch to heat up the barrel to facilitate the removal of a stuck choke. The barrel is off a 303 and as such is threaded to take standard Mobil chokes. There was a a MOD choke fitted which was NOT stuck. Just the job for a knockabout pigeon gun. When I got the gun home, a quick strip down showed that the bolt had a piece broken off from the runner that slots into the action and was beyond economic repair. The trigger assembly was also missing 2 major parts, but can be repaired. The rest of the gun was complete and undamaged. As the back of the bolt was damaged I decided to replace the recoil spring which is in the stock . I was assured by a well known Beretta parts supplier in UK, that ALL of the 300 series had the same recoil spring fitted and they supplied one for a Beretta 391. When I got the old spring out, it was 3" longer than the 'new' spring that I had bought. Anyway, I fitted the 'new' spring and made a spacer from wood dowel, to breach the gap. So, now to try it out  !  I removed the bolt and trigger assembly from my 303 and they went straight onto my new gun. I did notice when I had the stock off,  the new gun had a homemade stock spacer fitted, which was of undetermined thickness, apart from a quick "chuck it into the shoulder and that looks near enough" fitting session and a complete strip clean and light lube, that was it. Ready for the 'take it out and try it' bit.  So, last Thursday I was at North Wales Shooting School, to give it a go on some skeet. I did change the choke for a mobil skeet choke, rather than the supplied MOD. Well, skeet is not really my thing and as such, I had not shot it for some time. The first line was a 22/25 with only the odd malfunction. The second line was a 23/25 and no malfunctions. The third line was a disaster, and I finished the line with an O/U due to continuous jams. The cartridges were Hull Superfarts, so no problems there. I had ordered the correct recoil spring from France and I bought 2 of them, I stripped the gun again and fitted the correct spring. Sunday morning and I was at the local ground with the 301. I ended up on a 42/54, BUT,  without a single malfunction.  I accept that the clay scores are not brilliant, but at my age and current fitness, I was happy enough. So, look out pigeons, Westley has a new gun  !

PS.

If anyone would like an  'as new'  391 spring, free of charge, (perhaps a tenner in the local air ambulance charity box)  PM me.
