Always water...because you do not realise when you get dehydrated ...especially on cold days (it is not just the heat that does it). Dehydration affects the vision and the sharpness of the brain's workings.

Slow release foods like porridge in the morning...or oat bars are good.

Big lunches mid day are not......much as they are enjoyable.

Thanks. I see people snacking on choc bars and banana's I assume for a bit of energy.

tinker is quite correct. also found a 'enerjade' type drink is good,, as is fruit, and energy bars,,, avoid spike drinks, coke, red bull etc!

even in the uk,, you will need up to a litre every hour or so. if your 'output' (urine) matches up almost with your intake, that is about right,

Good big breakfast for me then nothing until shoot is finished apart from water as tea makes me pee

Paul120 can vouch for many stops required enroute home :)

must be an age thing ?

Water, porridge for breakfast, bananas, nuts, dried fruit..... Avoid sugary/caffeine drinks. Also best to avoid fatty foods prior to shooting (save it for after).... Best drink is water though.

Going by the food consumed in most shooting ground clubhouses I would say. Full English breakfast. bacon/sausage baps strong tea with 4 sugars or full fat coke.

Keep in mind it takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes for what you consume to start to have any affect, avoid foods that can spike your blood sugars and cause blood sugar crashes. Make sure its balanced, ie not all carbs, protein is an extremely important part of your diet.

I used to make up my own drinks, as tink says dehydration sneaks up on you but can have a major effect on your performance so keeping hydrated is key (I used to mix up a weak solution of diarolyte with a wee bit of added glucose), other than that a general healthy diet and take on slow burn carbs at the start of the day and small snacks like fruit, oatcakes &etc rather than pie and chips through the day. Other than that everyone is different so find out what suits your metabolism, I knew an Irish CG bronze medallist who chomped the odd  mouthful of Malt loaf throughout comps. Avoid 'energy' drinks both for the sugar spike and the caffeine kick they can give you.

Yup. Even water is now banned for ips.
It was me pi55ing into the wind today though.

seriously though. Water to drink.

I did a comp in Phoenix Arizona. The temp ws 110f In the shade and we were in the sun for 20 mins out of each half hour for 7 to 8 hours.

Cant remember exactly but I had a 2 litre water bottle that lasted about an hour befor a refill.

After the first couple of days any additives in the water just made it feel like drinking treacle.

Never been keen on coke since as the taste reminds me of the thoughts of drinking syrup.

Isotonic drinks and water for me as I suffer with dry eyes and also need to wear contact lenses. Not a great combination some (most) days, need to keep myself well hydrated so I can at least see properly. Bacon/breakfast roll or burger first thing though. Isn't that the best part of going shooting? :)
