I have often wondered if we could get legislatiion forced upon us to restrict which make of gun and/or shells we could use. In other words, do you feel that the Olympic mob could ever do a deal with, let's say Beretta for example, that made it a case that everyone had to use a certain make and/or model of gun so as to be able to shoot an Olympic discipline? Could they also possibly limit the size or weight of the gun to used? I have to say that I have become very sceptical of the Olympic mob over the years and I often wonder how long it will be before Olympic shooters will have no freedom of choice, let alone an opinion or input into any proposed future changes.

Yes I am VERY sceptical, BUT...is it only me?

Why would it Les? Is there any precedent?  Athletes don't have to wear Nikes, or one brand of shorts...  Skiiers aren't restricted to Rossignol... and Cyclists can use any brand of bicycle.

I can see why they would restrict parameters - but not brands.

The answer is very simple Matt! MONEY!!!!! There are already rules about branding and or sponsors names, money could eventually play a much bigger part than it currently does, but it's only my view of course, and I'm a sceptic Matt!!!!

I seem to remember some pretty serious conditions placed on athletes at last years Olympics as to what brand they could or could not wear something to do with the main sponsors of this amateur games, amateur yeah right course they are.

Money as you say les will stick its big size 9s anywhere it can if the price is right.

Yes I think Addidas were one of the ones who were "in the club" last year. Money talks as they say, so if the price is right I believe that it could well happen. I think that F1 only allows teams to use a certain make of tyre, the reason? MONEY!!!!  And lets face it, the days of truly amateur Olympians went out of the window years ago in many sports.

Everyone knows that money in sports is totally altruistic.  Just helping out as it were.  One brand of shoes, one make of tires, one gun maker - it's all just a matter of fairness, innit.

And as for that silly amateur stuff, who wants to watch a bunch of slugs on the TV?  Has there been a medal winner in the last 20-30 yrs that actually had a regular profession and employment?  And why would we even care if they did?  Wouldn't be able to keep up with a real athlete would they?

I've been surprised that some countries haven't granted citizenship and a generous stipend to prominent athletes so get some talent on the "home" team. I gave some thot to an international Olympic talent agency.  Cudda made some $ I'd bet.  Sorta like expanding the stable.

My bold above.  Absolutely since there are established parameters for about every other shooting discipline and have been for decades.  And they have been modded thru time as well to reflect "innovation", well, actually to restrict it.  Ported barrels spring to mind and release triggers for shotguns already.  Seems like a ridiculously low max weight would be just the thing to cut the top off those silly high scores, eh?

And check out the massive pile of whatever that dictates what a "bicycle" is.  Just for example.

besta luck

Well two of our Olympic trap medal winners over the last few decades have held down day jobs so they would be classed as amateurs.

I can only ask why did they bother?  The IOC loves pro athletes.  Basketball, anyone?  Cycling?

Don't the sailing events at the Olympics all have the same boat to start with provided by the host nation but its up to them how they hard or soft they set the rigging and at what angles.

Good point Robert yes sailing do use same boat so les has a point re using same gun cant see it happening though

I hope it doesn't but I would not like to put money on it! Money speaks volumes in this world and the days of the gifted amateur is gone, and I fear that sooner or later choice of gun and ammo could be removed. Yes it sounds a bit sinister I know, but big business gets into everything in the end these days I'm afraid!

I spose if a big name cartridge manufacturer became a sponsor and put massive wedges of dosh on the table it is not too far a stretch of the imagination for the same ammo having to be used, they have already stipulated grams and shot size so to demand we all use same make well who knows !!

As a previous poster pointed out F1 have to use same make of tyres because of massive sponsorship.

Never NEVER ever EVER going to happen

One must be open to the powers of corporate sponsorship nic :)

and who knows it might be fiocchi that all Olympic shooters have to use :)
