Yes Charlie that is the way to put it! Weather was not perfect here today, there was some cloud,  by any measure BUT it was constant and I could shoot in shirt sleeves and feel comfortable for four rounds with one set of lenses. To be fair though it cuts both ways during high summer I can have a day when the sky is so beautifully blue all day and I use my CMT lenses but the sweat is running out of me because it is 40C + and I HAVE to drink 3L of water just to stay upright! Its at those time I wish for a little bit of a cooling breeze and 10C less Mercury... but hey I'll suffer it :)

Well john aint life a bitch.

you poor poor man having to endure all that french sunshine, bet you wish you were back in cold windy rainy old blighty. :)

Oh yes Ian :) to be fair though I am only trying to point out that just because the weather in terms of light is perfect there is a down side and heat is one of them. I don't doubt you have been in the position but I find when simply standing upright and raising your gun causes buckets of sweat and fatigue you can find yourself saying oh I wish for cooler conditions even if the light is a bit shonky :)

Bisley English open abt last year mate that was 30 ish at least boy was it hot for uk. Used to go to nice regular and had to endure 40 + could hardly raise my sauvignion glass :)

Its beer Les but not as we know it! I never touch beer when I am shooting though only water, have a few after wards though :)

40C, eh?  What wimps!  When I was working in Palm Springs I would do my regular 40mile training ride on the Colnago in a temp of 45C.  'Course the humidity was banging around 10%-12% so it was easier to deal with.  It's 38-40C here fairly commonly in the summer but the humidity is not at all low.

To tell the truth, I'll take the heat any day over freezing my ass off in a drizzling rain.

But that might just be me

I generally never stray from my Ranger Vermillion lenses, bright/dull/whatever I usually have my vermillions on. The only time I really changed was when I was shooting white clays at Loch Ness I used clear since there isn't a lot you can do with a white clay.

Yep, vermillion do it for me too, never shot white clays though!!!

Loch Ness went through a phase of using white clays. It was difficult adjusting to start with but white clays on green background worked pretty well. Hard to see if it was dull day though.

You go through all of the colours to find what works for you and fine tune it till its right.

As i said, my tint is very dark and the only time i have felt it could have been lighter was under covered trap layout with dark rainy sky. My tint works for my eyes and allows me to pick out orange very easily whilst keeping my eyes relaxed.

I should also point out that mine are prescription ground lenses, not clip-ons or "double glazing" so truly custom.

I used to have Pilla but i could never get the lens tint right, the sun only needs to go behind a cloud and the clay is lost.
I have similar lenses from Mr Lyons, although mine are quite light in comparison to some people's. Mine are clip on filters for my prescription Randolph glasses. The difference in perception of orange clays is palpable.

I use the purple lenses in my Rangers (see avatar) from Ed also. For most of the time anyway.

They seem to suit most conditions.

They dull the contrast of the background and the orange clays really stand out.
