I toddled along to the Oxford Gun Co. yesterday for a 100 ESP practice, with my wife and GavB.

It is not a 'competition tough' layout, but a very pleasant guided round for £35. This compares very well to EJC or WLSS practice rounds. Fibre carts only. We were guided round by well known trap shooter Steven Walton who was very pleasant.

The first five stands are each under cover, useful if raining. These are also the easiest stands, although I still managed to drop three on a simple looking sim pair!

The last 5 are out on a (newer)? bit of ground with large earth banks around. Some more testing targets here and good potential that they seem to be developing.

Apparently it all gets changed monthly and yesterday was a touch easier than normal, left over from a schools shoot.

If I am going to try and shoot a bit more, then this makes a nice warm up for the weekend shoots. My 90 wont be repeated at registered events this weekend, but it shakes the cobwebs out.

There is of course the shop there too, so worth a trip if a pleasant practice is needed.

shot there myself thursday got 76 so 90 looked good to me just could not get on to that fast low left to right on the red course.man i'm slow

Was that the quartering incoming bird? Followed by a going away slightly crossing? If so, it wanted about 18" lead, but you had to read the line as it was dropping.

Pleasure as always Will, left far too many out there, wasnt smooth enough, must try harder to slow down , nothing distant quite a few trap targets

but a good shoot to practice technique having had an information overload recently

couldnt find that at all until i took it much earlier as an extra bird - note to self - shoot where its good for me, not the same place as the previous shooter

Quite right. I shot the penultimate stand and copied my wife! Dropped three l-r crossers trying to get them at the slow dropping point before I changed and whacked it early.. Might be the target Elmoog is on about..

yep that was the one shot at it so late just followed it along it was like i was scared to pull the trigger.

I find its vital to decide on a kill point and only follow the target for a short distance before it. Forget the fact that it is visible for ages.

76 seems a good score going by your recent CPSA number, well shot.

Do you still have to shot sub sonic cartridges there.

The last time i went there some years ago they were having trouble with the noise police and we had to buy different cartridges.

I asked that when I booked and was met with a rant from mr Florent about how that had never been the case there! Bizarre as I remember having to buy them there to shoot a few years ago.

The answer is no, any fibres are OK.

Might have a look back up there then.

We definately had to buy different cartridges thats why we never went back, the excuse was that a neighbour had started to complain about noise.

I was there today having a couple of rounds of sporting. I appears that they did have a requirement for their "Stealth" cartridges but that has recently been reversed. Although my wife shot with stealth (due to recoil considerations) I was using White Gold Originals without any problems and they guys that went around with us were using equally varied cartridges. Only requirement is Fibre wad 28g max.

Have to have a look back up there then, as thats the place i got hooked, on one of their have a go days.

GavB,

I think you may well shoot more cartridges in a week than I have ever shot.

Really jealous.

Just teasing Gavin, I am really enjoying shooting at the moment, may well do Grimsthorpe although it is a journey to another planet for me, but it really is a good ground to shoot at. You really ought to plan to do Hodnet on the 30th December, I promise you will love it.

I am in negotiation for that day at the moment, if you know what I mean ;)
