Just had my first outing in four weeks with my new XTR shot a 19 followed by a 21 wanted to do another round but my brother an his mate wanted to get off :(   Got handshakes form the guys ( which is usual in France) but also two of the top shooters gave me a lot of encouragement saying I shot really well since they were nearly all first barrel and powdered! I must admit I know it was only 19 and 21 but for my first year and to have that sort of encouragement gave me a nice feeling! :) Got to get some shooting partners that are more interested in shooting and less in getting away from their wives, plus another shooting ground to shoot every week instead of once a fortnight! :(

Well done.

Next time it will kick your ass with a 15 and a 16 but don't get disheartened. Stick at it and the consistency will come..................apparently!

Yes DT I think you are probably correct there :)

I did change my shooting style yesterday and was quite effective BUT I don't know if what I was doing is technically correct !? What I was doing was mounting my gun as normal and calling for the clay. When I spotted the clay I was getting my gun well out in front and then slowing my swing until I saw the clay just appear in front of the bead and then shooting it.... well at least that's what I thought I was doing:) Thing is that the good shooters at the club place a very high priority on getting the clay shot very quickly, they are always saying to me that I am sleeping! I think I was very happy because the targets that I hit were completely powdered and after missing the first two clays I hit the next 20 straight and then missed two from the last three. I lost it at the end because I started to think about my score instead of whacking the clays. I think from my very limited experience of this discipline that sometimes you get far more targets that, if you know what I mean, are better for you or easier in as much as they are less extreme angles because you happen to be one the right stand when they are thrown hence my scores vary a bit. I may be being a bit of an anorak but I do note my scores every week and I am becoming more consistent and my scores are going up! Anyway next shoot is two weeks away so I will work on gun mount and stance at home.

Whatever works will do just fine. You are correct abt is a very unfair and unpredictable discipline. My advice is when you are happy with a style stick with it trust it and concentrate ONLY on seing the target, the rest will happen on its own in fact when you shoot Partictlarily well you will find you have no idea what you did or even be aware of pulling the trigger, this is nirvana for shooters.
