Very disappointing for this to happen Tony - not what any of us would expect from a top ground.

However - Podimore has a great reputation, and have staged some excellent FITASC shoots in the past, including a GB Selection shoot earlier this year.  I'd be inclined to give them another chance going forward.

Of course - I would be livid if this had happened to me (its a long drive for a Sunday)...and I'm not defending basic logistics getting screwed...but this has to have been an exceptional situation for them.

I would agree that every business can occasionally screw up. How it is put right measures their true mettle. If I were podimore, I would have given anybody who turned after the clays ran out a tea and a bacon roll, plus a free entry voucher for next time.

I was surprised to read that Podimore was still putting on registered shoots. As far as I am aware, Paul is unable to run the shoot anymore (can't repeat why because I don't know how much of what I have heard is just rumour). If he isn't there it doesn't surprise me that there have been some glitches. I have also heard it is up for sale.

I also hear that it's management is in a transient state.. Lets just hope that the existing interim team learn from today and that normal service is resumed ASAP. We all want Shooting Grounds to thrive, we want the options!

Totally agree ! Sorry is the hardest word but goes such along way! ! ;)

So, arranged to meet a mate at Podimore at 1pm today to shoot 100 ESP registered. The web-site shows shooting times as 10am to 2pm. Never shot here before, so thought I'd try a new ground.

Set out just after 11.00, arrived there just after 12.30. Wandered into the clubhouse (first thought was that it was a little Heath Robinson, but let's reserve judgement).

Cheers that's answered my question as to whether it would be worth the journey up there and clearly the answer is a big NO! Shame u had such a wasted trip to find this out though.

Ordered a coffee...and was asked if I was there to shoot...!? When I say yes, I was told they weren't taking any more entries. Imagine my surprise...!!

When I asked why, I was told that they had run out of clays.

"Pardon?", says I, sure that my ears were playing tricks on me.

"Sorry", they say, "we've run out of clays".

Now, I could sit here and ramble on about professionalism, organisation etc etc, but I shan't bother - let's face it, I've wasted enough of my valuable time already today, having just driven for 3 hours FOR NOTHING!!!! :yell:

Saw big Mark J in the car park, had a chat and a moan, during which time he showed me his card - 10 stands of 10.

Say no more, methinks. Obviously an amateur, poorly organised outfit that should stick to straw-balers for the locals.

So, no matter what, I will definitely NEVER be going there again.

What a crock of sh*te!

To not offer something as a "sorry" seems indefensible, allowing for the "exceptional circumstance"

The wife is probably tryng to run the ground.

He was up for a Crown Court hearing about an alleged fireams offence and alleged assault.

He was remanded in custody after a magistrates court hearing until 5 November when he was due at Taunton Crown Court for a preliminary hearing.

I have not heard anything since.

It seems that the ground is suffering as a result of all this despite numbers turning out which would seem to be supportive.

This is merely by way of an explanation to those who are not aware and by no means an excuse.

I almost went there myself as its not that far away from me and I saw that some of the members from here were going but my local shoot was on as the weather was OK.

i went there just before xmas and the sun was running things along with one of the regular helpers. That was my first time and i enjoyed it along with the web results showing every ones score on each stand a good way of seeing how you did against the top guns. Sunday would have been there second shoot give them a chance i say.

Did he have his hat on?

its a ground i try and avoid if possible, never been there without breakdowns and its always been overpriced with mediocre targets.

wylye is only just up the road so couldnt they have got clays from there?

They could if they had asked.

I think your judgement is a bit harsh Stuart. Paul has been doing that job longer than most and there is not much he doesn't know about setting and running good clay shoots.

It seems this was the problem - he wasn't running the shoot on Sunday.

Ah well, I'm a lot calmer now, so I'll just put it down to experience and move on.

Wylye looms, and I'm looking forward to it!  :D

How nice to see such generous posts from Ian Stones ( Wylie) & Jim French,

We can all read about what has and is going on with the altercation, but life has to go on, and it  is very nice to see Wylie isn't rubbing his hands and gloating that there is now less opposition.

I would be more than happy to give anyone the benefit of the doubt and hope for everyone's sake that the troubles are behind them. We need more shooting grounds not less. Good Luck Podimore and well done Wylie.
