I have been told Podimore is closing from Sun 11th Aug, I hope someone takes it on as it was a good ground. Any of you heard news of this ??.

If true this is another blow for west country shooting :(

Aye, if true, then it looks like a worrying trend in Southern grounds closing shop.

By contrast, up North, we see new grounds opening - DIshforth and Old Glossop SG being just two this last couple of months.

As you know the owner of Podimore is in prison but I have been told that the ground will be taken over almost at once at the end of September.

It is true PODIMORE is closing, there is no plans for anyone to take it over as yet although people are talking.
Fingers crossed ian stones may be able to take this ground over.

It may be that if you want to shoot you have to move up north!

PURBECK, no sporting
Southern Counties, limited sporting
WYLYE going
PODIMORE going

To shoot a registered its going to be a two hour drive each way!

The owner of PODIMORE was sent to prison for problems in his personal life, having a access to a gun sometimes is not a good idea.

It would be great if Ian can take it over!  Fingers crossed!

(Go get 'em, Stonesy!!)  :thumbsu:

If the figures bandied about of what the rent is are true then NO ONE in their right mind will take it on! there is no taste in nothing!

I have run grounds and know  the figures "expected" for rent are not viable, maybe 25% of the figure is feasable possibly 30% but no more!

Whoever takes over? will need to spend serious money on a clubhouse and toilets plus graveled pathways and stands.

Also the entrance road floods in the winter causing shoots to be cancelled which you can do nothing about as the water table is very high and when the soil is saturated it takes time to dry out.
