Pardon my asking, but with the computer aided technology that we have today, would it not have been possible to devise a system where you could have eliminated competitors fairly on countback to targets missed? It is my understanding that we should all have shot the same sequence in a competition.

I seem to remember something like this was the case decades ago, but I lose track of all the rule changes. I can't even remember when they first brought in 28grm and then 24grm shells! I'm sure Fred will know, he seems more up to speed with things than I am mate! :)

Firstly remember I am a girl(and my head is frazzled from too much information)! I have 2 questions on porting ...

1. Is the main aim of porting to reduce muzzle flip? (and does it?)

2. Am considering some form of recoil system, do ported barrels have an impact on recoil?

(drat, that's 3!).

help!

The rules do cover porting. Iirc it's a mac of 20cm from end of muzzle or something like that but point is t WAS legal to port for Olympic disciplines. Skeet shooters are more common to do it. Jesus Serrano does it in OT but not seen others. Peter Wilson also does it.

1. Yes, whether it's worth the negatives such as louder report is open to debate

2. No, certainly not in a measurable context

A knew a few guys who used the old Classic Doubles trap guns, basically a Winchester with ported tubes, they loved the things and used them for DTL and ABT. None of us really noticed the extra noise I have to say, but I have heard it mentiioned before though! Yes as far as I remember the reason for porting was to reduce muzzle flip, but I didn't really notice that much difference on the ones I tried, but the owners reckoned the things were great! Some of the skeet guys had slotted ports, but mainly they were just holes.

So has anyone ever imported a gun from the USA? Is it difficult?

Les, if I remember right it would be extremely cost prohibitive to import from the US. (there was a thread on here somewhere about it) not only have you got all the import fees, vat etc but it will need proofing too.

If you want ports it seems far cheaper and easier just to take your barrels to Nigel Teague :)

Jesus was it that long ago Ian?
have searched and searched using that thing that rhymes with doodle to confirm my date is correct but cant find anything, which is weird.

Well Fuz it's not that I want ports mate, it's just that I've seen a number of guns on US sites that we can't get hold of over here. Many are used guns but also a few new ones too. They seem cheap but I guess with VAT and import tax etc they won't be! Cheers Fuz!

Would that be the shy Sam who has a dozen 100 straights at DTL on her record?

Not sure why multiquote is not working ... maybe an old IE version on this laptop! However, cheers Hamster and Les53 - am still considering what to do about recoil, and if it is a problem - or just me. Am on a mission this weekend to find out some information .. and may start up a new topic next week!

cheers!

Try my gun if we ever meet. The bottom barrel is ported and the top one isn't (didn't have the £s years ago to get it done!)

Muzzle flip I can't tell the difference, but I do notice less recoil. Hardly scientific but just my experience

Nope ... think you mean Sam Sharpe, she suggested the other week that we have a shoot off to see who keeps the name 'Sam' - it is confussing when we are both refereeing at Fauxdegla!
