Its not so good the west end of the M4 corridor as most  reg shoots from here are 3-5hr driving round trips depending on which grounds you venture too and have to pay toll to get home

There is also Reg ESP's at E J Churchills on the 10th December

Atkin Grant & Lang on the 18th

Four Counties on the 20th

and just across the border, Owls Lodge on the 12th & 22nd

So not too bad really!

None of those is exactly 'South East' as they are either north or west of London.

EJ - 83 miles each way, 30% of the M25 :( , 5 hours round trip?

AG - 88 miles each way, 50% of the M25 :(  5 hours

FC - 111 miles each way, M25 + M4 :(  5 1/2 hours

Owls - 99 miles each way. :(  5 hours

And before I get accused of living in the Bundu my local Gunshop is Potters in Tunbridge Wells, a mere 15 minutes away!

Greenfields is a good 2 hour drive so 4 hours on to the day. Only Southdown and Horne are an hours drive away so I'm down to 2 shoots!

If I had to travel more than 45 minutes to pull the trigger I wouldn't bother unless it's for work!

spoilt in the Midlands :)

so on average your doing 40mph. You need to get a faster car. Or may be change up a gear.

How did you do at Westfield?

Best thing to do if the shoots are 5 hour round trips is to do 2 or maybe 3 shoots makes the trip worthwhile ?

Move to the East Midlands region then !!!

Doing an average speed of 40mph on most of the A27 to get to Southdown would be a result.  The bits from Polegate to Lewes and from Shoreham through Worthing are bloody awful.

I didn't go. The weather looked foul and the drive put me off! I bottled it.

Faster car? Yeah right! :)  You've seen my ride. Top speed is not the problem it's the flashing cameras, unmarked big black Audis and numpties doing 55 in the right hand lane that slow one down. Getting to the M25 from home takes all of 50 minutes on a reasonable day and on a Sunday morning the back roads are full of pensioners in Nissan micras and even pushing them into the hedges doesn't help. So the first 20 miles is achieved at about 20 mph average. Clawing back from an average of 20 to say 65 over the next 80 miles means doing those 80 miles in 42 minutes ..... hmm that's a steady 114mph. You and I know that there are at least a dozen cameras on the southwest quadrant of the M25 so you have to chuck the airbrakes out for those so the rest of the time its say 120-125 mph ( good luck with that on the M25 ) and after all that the round trip has gone from 5 hours to 3! At least I suppose, I'll arrive at the shoot with a police escort ( or should that be pursuit ) .

You've obviously done the same trip as me on a few occasions! :)

I swing off at shoreham and go round the back via Washington or go Haywards Heath and down the 23. I'm told it can be done in 40 - 45 minutes by someone with a heavy foot and very, very big ........... well you know ...... but I couldn't possibly comment.

Anyone got a helicopter for sale? :)

( sorry folks ........ I'm bored, it's winter and dark at 16:30 and I haven't been shooting since ....... Saturday!)

"Dorset is just a suburb of London"

Eh?
The point I was trying to make Charles, was that from Cornwall, if you drive to Dorset (Purbeck for instance), you might just as well drive that little bit further and hit some of the shoots that we all hear about on here every week, as they are only just up the road in comparison.

I wasn't trying to offend your sense of County pride, but Dorset is in comfortable driving distance from where it all happens, and in spitting distance from the Capital compared to Penzance.

No we don't give up we travel if necessary.  It is a bit gloomy travelling in the morning in the dark and back again at night in the dark and I am not that keen on cleaning up the gear when we get home if it has been muddy but I can't imagine not shooting and Tony definitely would not give up, its the highlight of his week.
Plus you get to meet some of the more interesting characters from here:)

:santa: x

If you want to go badly enough the travel time is not wasted!!!!

just make yourself a flask of " suck it up Mary" and get to it.?
