If a shooter is number 4 on a squad but jump's ahead and shoot's in number 3 position, what happen's?

It shouldn't really happen as the referee should step in and ask him to step back off the stand as it's not his turn.

In any case the score would not stand.

Bryan,

The targets are not scored - it comes under the rules 5.64 (targets not scored) and 5.66 (conduct rules).

There is nothing in the rules about "target lost" or anything about that.

It is common courtesy to KNOW the order and shoot in that order of course. Mistakes can happen but in my experience they are usually marshalled well enough by the squad / referee as a whole to avoid such things happening.

The biggest challenge i guess will be settling the squad after - especially the shooter who has been "jumped". If i was them i would be asking to see a target under rule 5.09 as the previous ones were "irregular" due to the wrong shooting order. Referee's discretion i guess?

Thank you all

i heard tonight that it happened somewhere today. The shooter was also a qualified ref. the outcome was not as you all described :)

In all the years of shooting Skeet competition i've never seen anyone shoot out of turn. In the unlikely event they didn't realise their mistake, the referee or other squad members would, especially the person that should be shooting!

I don't doubt what you're saying Bryan but it seems a little odd to me.

Neither have I . People are usually switched on by then . Obviously not on this occasion. The decision made about the target shot was very odd too , given that the shooter was a qualified ref

The same thing happened at the Welsh Skeet Counties Final, and I believe that his score stood...

Only a young Colt, so understandable considering the occasion..

Surely the shooters on the squad ,especially the shooters place he took, would have realised straight away . Also assuming they'd already shot stand one it would have meant the ref would have scored the wrong card and also mixed two shooters scores together , also if he had been a proper  ref he should of adhered to the rules not scored the shooter and sorted it out , imagine the problems if he had won and other shooters had found out (you know how people can be when it comes to winning and rules) also if the ref let him continue and it did cause a row it would be the refs fault !!

Self refereeing always ends up with strange decisions, and individuals interpretations of the rules.
