Here is where I went wrong! I shouldn't have been lazy and posted my question on here (I've now had a look in the dictionary).
Ah, no. It's a perfectly reasonable question. I would have enjoyed giving the answer about classical languages, but someone beat me too it. If everyone took that attitude we'd have no forum at all.

Humility.........hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Now you really are on a wind up.

well! what does it stand for? what are the origins
ex-

prefix, in Eng. meaning mainly "out of, from," but also "upwards, completely, deprive of, without," and "former;" from L. ex "out of," from PIE *eghs "out" (cf. Gaul. ex-, O.Ir. ess-, O.C.S. izu, Rus. iz). In some cases also from Gk. cognate ex, ek. It has stood on its own since 1929 as abbreviation for ex-wife, ex-husband, etc.

Origin:  < Latin,  combining form of ex, ē  (preposition) out (of), from, beyond

Nicola could have told you that though! ;-)

Whats wrong with the good old convention   48/50?  or even easier 48?

Condescending .......Moi.....????

Hahahaha Darky.....Gary........you crack me up..... Hahahaha

This has to be one of the most stupid threads I have ever seen on a forum.

Sorry folks....just my opinion....not intending to upset anyone......but really....

It is not going anywhere.....it was answered......and now it is morphing into.......what? Rubbish.

Toodles.....have fun.....I am out.

Would that work so well with a result such as  9 8 8 9 9 ex 50 ?
Easy it would be  43/50  or 43

Its just the same as scoring a metric archery round        you all know what the expected score can be if you got all targets   or tens in archery

we even have FITA to contend with in Archery .
