Hi All

Anyone help I have a few scratches on my barrels, is there a touch up I can do or do I have to get them re-blued ?

Greg

There are some touch up blueing kits available. bingle "cold blue" or you could search fleabay for "blue wonder", "bluing" or "blueing". There are also some how to do it videos floating around the net.

I bought a cold bluing kit off the net when I was tidying up my previous gun, a Browning GTi Ultra Sporter - at some point in its life someone had cleaned the receiver with a brillo pad and taking most of the original finish off.

http://www.caswelleurope.co.uk/coldox.htm - Cost me about £8 plus P&P IIRC and did the job lovely, but did need several coats to build up the colour I was after.

Assuming a high standard of finish is important to you I wouldn't bother with the touch up pens, in my experience they're not very effective. They're OK if you want to cover marks normally hidden by the forearm but for anything that's visible the barrels will need reblueing. Reletively few gunsmiths reblue barrels now as it's a fairly labour intensive and very dirty process. Most that offer the service send their barrels to Wisemans Gunsmiths in Cannock. I can certainly recommend them, they've done barrels for me in the past and done a good job.
