As a newbie to clay pigeon shooting for little under a year I monitored this forum for a few months until I felt I had something worth contributing, I introduced myself with a posted entitled 42,000 cartridges. I felt this post had some value to newbie’s like me which will and have gone through the same up’s, downs and frustration as I have and occasionally still do with my shooting, the reply’s I had were to say the least mixed with a few pats on the back (thank you) and others asking whether I was serious, bonkers or I had an interesting sense of humor.

It would seem my attempt to interact and become a contributing member of this forum had failed at my first post; therefore in the future I will be keeping my thoughts to myself and go back to monitoring this forum.
At least you're honest Andy, and good on you for that. :)

Perhaps it would have helped smooth your way in if you'd made a first post introducing yourself and a bit about yourself instead of the one about an unattributable 42,000 cartridges? Just a suggestion mate.

Incidentally, I posted your first post on our forum and it made for quite an interesting debate which engaged a bunch of shooters on the average number of shells they'd gone through when they were at their height (a bunch of current and former Team GB shooters and coaches), so it did have some impact, if perhaps in an unintentional way, and created a lot of good-natured b.a.n.t.e.r. and reminiscing.

Hope you post more.

Cheers,

Bren.

Ok ladies and gentlemen you all have convinced me to stay, I’ve got loads of stuff to chat about some stuff might be very boring but I’m sure some of it will be interesting. My job is all about physics, chemistry and maths although I’m not anal retentive by a long stretch; however I do seem to look at things from a lateral angle most of the time. With hard work and dogged determination most of the goals I’ve set myself have come to fruition over the years and with this latest adventure (how to shoot a shotgun) I am finding as one door closes another opens and more questions need to be answered. I found reading books didn’t really cut it for me, I decided the best way forward was to get out there with the right instruction and keep pulling the trigger.

I’ve shot a lot of club grounds in my local area (midlands) and shot some comps with some success, by the meaning of success I mean I’ve achieved the goals I set and hopefully continue to do so. I have also found there is a large gap between club and comp shooting. One can almost straight club but it’s a different ball game when shooting comps, I also would like to say to anyone thinking of moving on from club to comps is to get an hour or so instruction before rocking up to a registered.

I shoot a berretta 682gold e 32” and have shot many different guns and it’s only just recently I’m starting to realise the differences between them with regards to weight distribution i.e. balance and the speed of acceleration, de-acceleration, I suppose you could call it point ability, or as some would say “comes up well”. It’s also apparent the body mechanics plays a large part in either hitting or missing clays, the muscle groups have to interact with each other or the shot has missed, the list goes on and on. Anyway it’s late and of course I’m shooting tomorrow so I’m off to get my beauty sleep because one thing is for sure I need it.

Andy just ask one question at a time.Im sure there will be a bit of fluffy rabbits(pish taking), it will drift off course, but there will be some very good advice given as well, read between the lines. Stick with it.

Quotes still work...

And no, I'm not. Yet.
Oh yes Matt, they still work, but when you are replying and quoting, they look different because you no longer get the quote marks and the persons name showing up before you post it. So what else are you up to then?

Lots of plans...  mainly focusing around new shooters, and how we help them.... will have something new up and running in the next few days.

The quotes thing is a bit ugly now... and I've raised it with the software guys...

OK  we've slightly digressed - BUT, the quote thing is fixable.

I just cleared my browser history and cookies, and then logged back in - and it worked.

I know that's not elegant, and I'll try and see if its fixable from my end - but I recommend doing that if you can. Then quotes look as they did before.

Do you think it would be of any use to have a newbie questions sub forum/thread? I know some people don't seem to like it when variouis questions keep coming up because they've been done to death before, but the newbies don't know that so it's not their fault. If it was a separate thread or sub forum, then those who wish to avoid those sort of questions/posts could just avoid that section.

Yep - that's the plan - but with a 'best answer' system, so we can build up a library of answers for new shooters.
