As some will already know, I do still compete in Practical Pistol matches overseas.

"Eyes and Ears" are a must, but in the last five years I have shot National Competitions in France, Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland, and standard prescription glasses are always accepted without the requirement of "shooting" glasses.

This has bugger all to do with clay shooting but just thought I would add it to the discussion. :preved:

I have varifocal lenses (3 different magnifications in 1 lens) and whilst I find them great for 'normal'  life they are a total disaster for shooting. Headlifting etc etc etc. it just doesnt work.

Single vision prescription lenses are the answer and for the best service and prescription go and see Ed Lyons. Not cheap -  but top quality.

If you are a fisherman then look at Optilabs -  their prescription single vision glasses are good and much cheaper than Ed Lyons best. But they arent in shooting specific frames.

well I ordered the  varifocal CONTACT lens will be here on monday/tuesday , will  get a cheep pair of polycarbonate  shooting glasses  and see what happens next sunday , or time allowing will have a walk down the farm on wednesday and try the idea out , As i said I used to use them before and they worked well apart from night driving ,  if memory serves they were Johnson & Johnson Acuview , but they are 14 day lenses and not what I want for shooting the idea is one pair per session so ordered some daily use once and bin them , the proof will be on the card or on the table depending.

Hi,

last week i recieved my shooting glasses (Dynamik Schießbrille) from Mueller-Manching. A well known company  for shooting glasses here in Germany.

The frame is titanium and i have 2 pairs of prescription glasses, orange for clay shooting and clear for when its a little dark or for pistol/revolver shooting . The nose bridge is in the height adjustable and you can change the glasses very quick and easily.

Cost....€ 831!! but thats not so bad when you consider i was there for 3 hours for eye test and frame fitting.

Me too... The last thing you want to do is lift or drop the head. I Like Ian's idea....if on trap...set focal point high. ....because the target always rises.
yes an excellent idea, sounds a bit like Dennis Taylor snooker glasses if used to wear in 80s - 90s :)

mensch, das ist viel Geld, sie muss sehr gut,

Dank an meine Frau für die Deutsch
Yes  they´re not cheap, but when you look at what some people give out for some glasses that are not better than most normal sunglasses (plastic cr..p) then i think they are worth it.

I can only speak from my own experience, but have used varifocal glasses
for over 10 years now and never had any issues, if you look at thr target
you shouldn't be moving your head up or down.

Hi Guys

The first part of my trial arrived the varifocal  contact lens,  had  gun out and dry fired at a couple of passing woodies and vision seems every bit as good as with my glasses , so hopefully tomorrow i'll get the safety glasses and try then out on some clays  as soon as I can .

Edited for diabolical spelling / Grammar . Thanks Robert .

Definitely some interesting point raised everyone, thanks for all the replies, I myself was out on Sunday for a shoot with a local club, a big thank you goes to Peter from this forum for inviting me along! Now although I have never shot in a club before and the weather was extremely windy, I used my varifocals as normal and to be honest they seemed fine, managed to hit half of my overall 50 so think for the time being I'll stick with them, obviously still lots to learn and improve on but for me I was we'll happy with my trusty varifocals and hitting something!

Big thanks to all at Kingswood club, especially Peter & Mark who kept me straight on the clays in the wind!

i normally wear vari focals I took a pair of old frames to my optician and had them put a tinted polycarbonnate distance vision lenses in. They work really well and are fitted perfectly for me.
