the cheap as chips parker hale did not let me down other than a firing pin at nine yrs old

Bought my first gun, a Silma Supreme from Diamond Guns for £300, thirty years ago. I persuaded my Dad to go halves if I kept the rabbits down on his smallholding!

Shot with it up to a couple of years ago. She's in the cabinet now and I shall never part with her. Yeah, she rattles a bit but I often managed to keep up with me mates and beat em on occasions. She never broke 90. 89 was her best in the Sussex Sporting.

I would grab it Colin, but if you can find a 30" then all the better............ :clover:

Been told that a long barrel would be the best option for me,I am 6ft 2ins tall and 18 + stone,I think I am in fairly good

nick for a 71year old kid

don't see how someone's height determines what barrell length they should have. Many slightly built shooters prefer 32 even 34" barrells with 2" extended chokeys. And many great big shooters prefer short uns.

Yup I like 32" and my next gun will be a 33 or a 34" and those of you that know me will know I'm just a wee whisp of a lad! :)

I wish I'd got one as my first gun mate! A sad day when that factory closed! All seems like yesterday, but its a long while back now pal!

daft thing was I saw it for sale about ten years ago and bought it back BUT sold it on again a few years later as I couldn't shoot it after Beretta and ran out of space in the cabinet.

Is the supreme any better than the premier on the silmas
the supreme is an older model iirc.

my first gun was a supreme and I couldn't fault it. I just moved on and it was a sad day when I eventually sold it to help pay for my wedding.

a gunsmith once told me that you can tell the quality of a gun by its internals... if you cut your fingers while stripping it down, its cheap.

the same smith serviced mine and was pleasantly surprised at the build quality. granted, it was no browning or beretta, but everything was neatly finished and fitted well.

for the money they are asking, you wouldn't go far wrong buying it as a first gun and probably wouldn't lose anything if/when you sell it.

for the record, I'm 6.1 and 19 stone and shot perfectly well with it, even with it having 27.5 inch barrels. if length is an issue, get some extended chokes to even out the balance a bit. :good:

I've quite fancied having an 804, Grand European or Nikko Supreme.
didn't you look at a PH game a few years ago ?

if you can find one they are excellent, Winchester action very good quality highly dependable and the 800 series particularly pleasing to the eye

you may have had a lemon les. My tame smith who I have known for fourth years deals in them and rates them as value for money and lets be honest at the money the op is talking you can't go wrong, plus less than five hundred will only buy a very well shot Beretta or miroku wereas I suspect the silma is pretty new. Op will easy get his money back if he ever trades for a +1k gun especially if he befriends his smith. Imo having a good relationship with one or poss two smiths and remaining loyal pays off long term. Sorry I digress but just a tip for the op.
I took your advice and went to introduce myself to our new neighbours, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, so looking forward to a good relationship with both of them. Funny but they do not seem able to recall you though !
