Something aint right. I use an Italian cartridge that (in my opinion) is VERY similar to a Hull Pro One. Yet they are £20-£25 less per thousand than the Hull; despite a punitive exchange rate and massive travel costs..

It aint right! They rip the arse out of it and eventually it will be back to the mega rich and famous again!

And trust me if lead gets banned you will see the alternatives rise and rise as well!

Years ago we had the same with 24gram. They were actually more expensive than 28gram and now more people are looking to 24gram because all of a sudden they are cheaper! The excuse back then was loading and production line changes or some bollox! Seems to be all forgotten now though! What can we actually do about it as shooters! Nothing.

If anyone has a contact at one of the cartridge manufacturers - I'd love to interview them for the site.
Matt I have just spoken to Fiocchi UK and Graham is happy to be interviewed by you. I will send you the contact details if you are still interested.

Do as the government would want. Stick lasers in our barrels. Kills the lead and noise problem in one go :(

I tried laser clays once. Very weird if you are a clay shooter as no leeed required. Newbies kicked my but.

I did it at Center Parcs - won everything after I found out you could shoot one on the floor instead of in the air. #win

Getting slightly off my downer, how is it when I was in Kos last year, little island off the arse end of Greece with no clayshooting just hunting the gunshop can stock brands such as rc and Rottweil for 6 Euro a box in 36 gram 7s also any guage no more than 9 euros. Talk about captive!

But a country with our volume of use and retailer competition is more expensive :( time to organise a manufacturer boycott methinks, power to the people! Now which one do we not buy from for a month or two first? :)

Boycott would never happen, people with some Balls in this country either died or left it!

Now we just role over and say .....how hard today?

Matt,

What someone should do is take all the data from the main stockists around UK like what you are adding links to now.

Put this into excel format.

Take the Top 10 Brands only that are used probably take the suggestions from the members here as a starting point.

Then do a nice little comparison of the prices. You could do lots with that data, for example comparisons by County, North and South divide, the differences between those at 250 rate 500 rate upto 1000. etc.

Could be very interesting to see how much it all varies. I guess not a lot because it is the manufacturers themselves who are setting the price and the smaller gunshops etc have a tiny mark up??!!!

If you were really sad you could work out how much fuel you specifically would need yourself to collect and wether you make a saving! ;-)

I would do it but I have a life and I have far too much analysis to endure when at work! ;-)

I would really like to know how a cartridge manufacturer actually comes to their RRP? Maybe you can do the interview as Nicola said and some questions the members here have could be asked?

Time is money!

Glen.

That was something like the idea I had - it was to create in an index based on 10 commonly used cartridges (mid range, budget, plastic, fiber, 28g, 24g, 12ga, 20ga etc) and build a page that showed those brands at x different retailers with some kind of spread.

It might be useful for people to find comparisons and leverage discounts at their local seller.

I will definitely do the interview. I'm going to put a thread up to gather questions later today.

Maybe someone could work this out at pence per pellet? Anyone know anyone who's counted the pellets in a shell?

Get the rope!

How does this work?

VIP 24gm £200

VIP 28gm £215

VIP 32gm £275

VIP 36gm £315

4 grams of lead on top of 24grams = 15 quid more

8 grams " " = 75 quid more

12 garms " " = 115 quid more

Can't see how that mark up can relate to lead and to the production of each range???

We are never going to know the following :-

How many of each range are produced yearly and the calculated cost to produce per year.

Obviously no company is going to give you those details, however we are led to believe that the increase in the price of lead is the main factor behind increases. I for one do not buy that I am afraid.

Would be interesting to know the sales for competition cartridges for a leading brand for 2011 in the UK Market though.

Glen.

The 24gm is certainly the slowest selling and uses best competition shot. Couldn't we have 8gm more of that for £30? Is it more expensive to make soft 5shot than hardened 7shot?

Express were happy to admit to 2million cartridges a week before the slump.

That's 60 pallets a week, say a lorryload a day.

A pallet is the most economic form of purchase and delivery. A buying syndicate of 8 would pay c. £600 each per 4000 cartridges [rough pricing] for a mix of shells, one manufacturer.
