It looks to be windy tomorrow and I am off to a friends charity skeet day. What affect does wind have on skeet, i.e. High or low tower up or down wind? I know it has an impact, less of an issue with sporting due to repetitive nature but in skeet you don't get to see the previous clay.

Many thanks

I would say that if you are having trouble with wind it may not be a bad thing when shooting skeet... as long as you don't get a watery one!

Wind takes no prisoners so doesn't matter whether it's `skeet or `ESP the birds are gonna go fast one way and slow up the other roughly speaking.

It can also cause 1 clay to rise well above normal flight and of course the opposite one,  will take a dive  !  (It's NOT just Footballers)

Watch your choice of first target of pair on station 4 too !

Oh, and try NOT to be No.1 in your squad !

Wind can make the clays go up, or down...up is quite common.

I have been known to literally crouch, mid swing, following a clay down on a windy skeet layout!

Obviously, if the wind is blowing from high to low, then your high birds will need more lead and you low birds less, and vice versa.

A strong wind, especially a gusting wind, affects skeet terribly. I speak from experience when I say if you care about your score don't bother shooting. Save it for another day.

I only do Skeet for practise so not competitively so I treat it as a bit of fun when the wind gets them, good for my reactions but I imagine it is truly frustrating when competing.

I asked a top shot  on how they handle the wind..

First thing is remember it's the same for everyone.

Don't let the wind be a distraction. So Keep you mind and eyes on the target.

I cannot remember the conversation

Not following through is usually a good starting point....

If its a bad day, a set of bike clips in the shooting bag are a must.......

I have been following through all day after a curry last night the bike clips would not help me

Ah.. must be an age thing again.
