Barbury, got a late place due to a cancellation. twas windy in Cirencester, twas a gale at Barbury. Will admit to struggling at present and the wind affected targets whilst not all to blame did play on the mind and made a poor effort on my part worse. Was in a squad with a gifted shot an even he found it took targets away, not the big booming ones, for him it was the short window - much closer offerings that escaped. Unaware of HG as no scores on view when I left

With luck these winds will abate as got a busy month.

Oxfordshire on Friday, managed to keep our usual chummy squad of 4, It was a much kinder day weather wise than my previous outings ( as all heavily 💨💨 affected ) this last week and all in all had a very pleasant afternoon out. Did mess up badly on a few stands, all mutt behind butt type of errors, that said I did shoot some stands well enough to feel 😊 enough with my shooting on the day.
Off to Gunsite Sunday 🤞 the 😊 factor will remain.

Have just seen full scores, the “first placed” in A B and C all went targets only, the B & C both shooting PBs too

Went to College Farm today and enjoyed the registered sporting in lovely weather.     On the way up the lane saw 4 young hares together in a field, beautiful.

Southdown. My usual slightly disappointing performance. Definitely still not comp fit. I'm OK on some targets, but just struggling to stretch the lead out on a few of them, tending to slow the gun a little. Never mind, with 6 comps booked in over the next three weeks I'll be getting a bit of practice in.

Also Southdown. They really had ill-conceived organisation and lack of correct planning so started late. A few changes and should be good next time. Great course I thought. 15 stands. Totally ruined my card by being in front on two stands, dropping 7. Finished 85. Really got to control my lead at the moment.

Did the STR also which again was a brilliant layout. Learned from my sporting errors and won A on 89 so happy enough.

Westfield for us today. Really good course . Couple of observations. The " snake " was broken . Group of four ,a couple in front of us stuck together like glue and messed up the flow.  And when two people with the same surname and intial  book on , it really helps ourselves and the refs if you put the first names on the score card . ( As we did when we booked on ). See later  if they've managed to get both our scores correct.  Anyhow these are minor, easily solved niggles. Enjoyed the shoot.

Jasper.

Edit . Scores all good.

Know that feeling, we had a J Baker, J Baker and S Baker on the same squad today. Fortunately they had put first names down for the two female J Bakers.

Southdown for us too.  Got to starting point and 3 squads still in front of us to shoot.  Started quite late.  I’d start by saying I thought the targets were great,  nothing too hard or soft, something for everyone however, organisation was dreadful.  I felt so sorry for our ref, we were her 3rd squad, straight up and down the lane with no break whatsoever, no lunch and only one bottle of water all day.  Consequently  she was shattered and that reflected in her performance as a ref.  We had loads of no birds (not her fault) we had loads of 2/3 targets in the air at once, again not her fault, but sometimes wasn’t pressing button for second target which was a pain because you’re waiting for it and it doesn’t come and she kept having to ask whether we had hit or missed some targets! Also kept recording target missed when it had been hit, I think she was so fatigued and dehydrated she couldn’t concentrate.  We didn’t say anything to her as it was just bad organisation and something you have to put down to experience.  Didn’t shoot as well as I would’ve liked to, hit some lovely targets and missed some stupid ones but hope to shoot  better Tuesday.

We were 5th squad out.  A few no birds and one stand with traps going off randomly until we got to the bottom of the lane and turned around for the first stand on the way back up (11).  Firstly, they spent about 20 minutes or so getting one of the traps to work.  One person shot and then they had to go and replace the battery on the same track (which took another 15 minutes).  I expect the bottleneck went on from there for the rest of the day.  I know our ref was about half an hour late getting to his next squad.  12 minute intervals doesn't give any slack at all to catch up if there has been a big problem at some point early in the shoot.

Also had trap breakdowns on Stand 13.  I smashed the first pair.  Had to stop and wait for 10-15 minutes.  Second pair missed! Hit the last pair.  Bloody annoying.

It is annoying, our friend was going to have a go on the pool shoot, C trap broke down and after numerous calls from the ref, 20 mins later no one had arrived to fix/replace battery etc so we had to leave it.  Social distancing was an absolute joke too.  So many people on platform for pool shoot not even a foot away let alone 2 metres (as the signs state) Everyone mingling down the lane and how can you keep your distance when the buttons for ref to push are taped to the stands?  At Owls the buttons are on cables so ref can move away from the person shooting, I just hope it’s improved when we are there in 2 weeks time.

Might have to book on for that if there is another Reg sporting on. Although I have bookings for 2 EJC shoots, Sporting Targets, AGL, Northampton and Kibworth over the next few weeks, so a rest that weekend might be a good idea.

Gunsite today, was warm enough for shorts. Walking down to book in the strap on bag broke sending carts, earphones, water bottles etc all across gravel drive, magic start to day. Started at 1.10, not many scores showing and of those nothing eye catching. In squad with couple chums which always helps pass the time, had shaky start, roller coaster middle in which I rather enjoyed until it became, er torture, though this due to seeing a huge dollop of bogey left-rights. Don't remember a no-bird for I, one of the chums, the rascal Joe Hale did though have quite a few, that said he appeared not to be fazed at all, shot very well indeed and carded a 92 which was sharing HG when I left.

I started up again this weekend.

Saturday at Kibworth just to get rid of as much rust as possible, did about 175 shells over the Sporting and 2 sportrap layouts.  First 20-30 shots I felt awful but was to be expected after last shooting March 21st.

Managed to get a slot at Gunsite on Sunday, didn't do too bad with 77, most misses coming over the first half of the shoot and to me it felt a bit tougher than usual but that's not a complaint.

Just need to get more shells through the gun and I'll be back to where I want to be before long.

EJ Churchill reg sporting this morning. Possibly their toughest one for a good while. Several stands with two really challenging targets on, often at range.

Thankfully I was on reasonable form and was following James Bradley Day to inspire me. Missed about three that I really shouldn’t but got through some tougher stands OK. Finished on 88 which is decent enough for me. Some good names not doing so well. JBD did a great 95 and I’m not sure there is much more out there. I really enjoyed it but if off-form I may not have so much. I think it was a bit rough on the B and C crowd personally. Very good in many respects but a few targets could have been backed off a bit.

A very stressful EJC for me. Big smash up on the A21 added an hour to my journey so I pulled into the ground 10 minutes after my squad was due to start. Not sure I dropped below 80 on the M25 or M40. After queuing in the clubhouse my squad was already on stand 4 by the time I caught up with them.

Started OK considering my pulse was still going at 130bpm, dropped a crosser on the third pair. In fact, it was only three stands that I would consider I did poorly on. Sim pair on 8, where I hit 3 out of the first 4, then missed 3 of the second 4. Stand 12 beat me up as well  with a 3. Thought it was very tough as a sim pair. I mucked up stand 10, hit pair, miss pair, hit pair, miss pair, which was unforgiveable.

The lovely people at EJC arrange for someone to score me on the three stands I'd missed at the start. Missed two crows due to sim pair panic on Stand 1 and dropped the first bird on Stand 3, which helped retrieve my score a bit.

Finished on 73. Third comp since the restart and best score of the three. Gradual improvement in scores makes me think I'm slowly getting back to normal.

Amazed looking at the results from EJC. What an intense event it is now. 97 HG is bonkers.

33 AAA/AA shooters. Entries from 23 counties today!

Just looked at score from Owls sport trap, first in C class and guess who went targets only! 😩
